started driving back from work today and car starts stuttering past 3k, no problems less than 3k. stock everything, never had this problem before. on my truck when this happened it turned out to be a bad coil pack, but they look fine. also, throttle response way down, even with clutch in. it was particularly hot and humid today, but i've never had a loss of power like this. all cockpit gauges read normal, no check engine light. ideas? suggestions? a forum post i need to read? anything would be helpful, i need to get to work tomorrow! Thanks

sounds very similar to my problem. i replaced the plugs and wires and it persisted.
check that you have a good ground on your resistor bracket. check for boost leaks (i don't think this would cause what you described, but it's good to check anyways). pull your plugs and check if it's running out of fuel or running out of spark, that would narrow it down quite a bit i think.
so far the suggestions I've had for mine are plugged catalyst (how many miles on your car, your cat could be plugged up or cratered causing the problem.) when was the last time you replaced your fuel filter? (could cause lean burn and sputtering. but like i said check plugs first, easiest way to tell if its fuel or spark.)

:tease: Wait, a N/T guy telling a turbo guy to perform a boost leak test? ROFL

Hey, just going with what I heard. I read up on similar threads to this, because I have a similar problem. I saw people suggesting boost leak checking for turbo'd people. I'm tryin to help.. isn't that what you should be doing, Mr. DSM Wiseman, instead of laughing at N/T people? :p

ROFL No no you got it all wrong. I was complimenting you and laughing at the turbo guy. :)

I tightened all of my hose clamps and did the best i could to check for boost leak. does not seem like a boost leak to me, especially since BOV is still just as loud. it feels like a cylinder is having trouble firing. tomorrow, i will replace plugs, wires, fuel filter, and clean throttle body. if that doesn't do it, then i will move on to throttle position snesor and coil packs. Thanks for the ideas thus far, i will post tomorrow or next day when work is complete.

Good to do anyway but if problem still persists...

....you will still need to go back and perform a boost leak test, not a visual inspection. Think about it, how can you have pressure leak without any pressure in the intake tract during your visual inspection. Boost leak have nothing to do with how your BOV sound, it just mean that your turbo is working overtime trying to maintain the same pressure. ECU injects extra fuel for air that was already counted at the mas but is no longer present in the system (boost leak), causing rich conditions and symptoms like you've described. We are not saying boost leak is what it is but in a situation like this, you simply can not discount boost leak until a boost leak test is performed. I do think changing plugs, wires, fuel filter should also be done at the same time.

i replaced plugs wires and fuel filter and the problem seems to have disappeared, although a new probably related problem has cropped up. When the motor comes down in revs, say when i push the clutch in approaching a stop light, it goes past idle and stalls, sometimes the ECU manages to get it back and hold it at about 300 rpm. picks right up if you give it any gas. Feels great other than that, thanks for the added info on the boost leak, although i should have just thought about it more and read more forums...Since my problem has been "fixed" i have not performed a boost leak test. i will have much more time for that next weekend now that my brakes are in perfect working order with new pads calipers rotors and stainless lines all around (feels awesome)! thanks for feedback!!!
