6 bolt swap check engine light is on why would that be????

Its a 98 eclipse gsx and i put a jdm 6 bolt in it seems to be working fine just curious about why the check engine light is on my logger never got here yet so i guess i will have to wait LOL!! Any main reasons these lights usally come on is there a certain sensor i hooked up alll the 2g sensors!!
 
hey man It will always come on. Mine did the same thing. Its for a multiple cyl misfire. But you have nothing to worry about. The engine is running fine but the computer see's a different firing order and gets confused. I had the same problem on mine when i did the swap. Its a very common accurence. Do you notice any performance issues with the light on. I just got dsmlink and took care of it completly. But beforre i had that I just used my pocket logger to turn off the cel.

I thought that would only happen on '95 and '96 cars.
 
i do notice that the car is really sluggish doesnt seem to have much power and it should have tons!! t3/t4 sc61 trim b/s removed fidnaza flywheel, and it dont have much power at all!! WHat could be causing my power loss?? It feels like the timing is getting pulled back my egts are very high and hard as hell on fuel. MY datalogger hasnt arrived yet :(
 
Yes you all need to either get us a data log or take a quick trip to autozone and get ur codes pulled for free. So we can help u out better.

It will not just ALWAYS come on, thats totaly BS. This is how rumours start about this guy said that and you need to do this and 6 bolt swaps suck etc...

If everthing is right there should be no codes no lights no problems. You can get random misfie with a 6 bolt yes but that is the ONLY light you should ever get if the engine is installed properly thats it. Random misfire is sometimes a come and go thing some get it some don't. My car needed the POT mod to stop it from throwing the code but my guess is there is something else wrong with your car after reading your other thread. If you get random misfire there are two stages of it I have had both. Stage one driving along car starts to sputter misfire miss and run like crap. If you turn the ignition off and restart it the code stays in the stage but the misfire goes away. Stage 2 is when it just throws the code but still runs fine this is usually the mulitple cylinder misfire code. I would have your logger out or get the codes pulled to see, I would start to trouble shoot the car and check for leaks etc..
 
Yes i was hoping to have my datalogger here before i finished the swap for this problem LOL but i didnt its still on its way! Ya id say that check engine light is deffinately on for a reason and i think thats causing my car to run sluggish. ALso i cant go to autozone cause we dont have one! Is there any way to reset the computer?? I did everything that was involed in the swap! So i dont know whats goin on??? :confused:
 
You can make your own code reader I saw it on vfaq you rig up some light to blink and it blinks the codes out. Im not sure if it was 1g or 2g you have to look. There is something else wrong with yoru car maybe a sesor in the wrong spot or something take a couple pics of under the hood in different spots for us to see.
 
Ok i hooked up a potentionmeter last night started up car and the light went a way then drove it for a bit and played with the potentiometer and when u turn it to a certain spot you can feel the car almost die! So i turned back the other way but still didnt make a huge difference, also the check engine light is back on!! Maby i got a pull the battery cable of to get rid of the light!? Dame i wish my logger would get here soon!
 
Yeah if you are idling and keep turning the Pot slowly you can almost make it die and make it idle really choppy. You should basically be almost zero to the CCW way. If you get your logger I can fully figure this out.
 
I tryede the pot mod on my car tonight, The problem I have been having was my car would idle high as hell, like at 2k RPMs. Its also getting random miss fires. But its looking like this pot mod didnt help at all. unless I did something wrong.
 
First off HIPPY haven't heard from ya get it working?

Second for the pot mod did you turn the pot till the car started to run choppy and almost die? Did you solder the wires to the middle and one side of the pot not the two ends? Let me know.
 
Yea my friend has a 95 talon tsi and he just put a 6 bolt in it and he said the check engine light will always stay on. :dsm:
 
Na i never really ogt it working a 100% still never got my datalogger yet!! Pissed over that from some asshole on this board! I think i have a o2 sensor gone or timing may ne of a hair or something i wish i had my logger!!
 
you say youve got a T3/T4 and ill assume that you have the nessicery fuel mods (checked your mod list, dosent seem to be up to date?). you might just be running to rich i noticed that my car ran like crap (650's & 255lph) then i did a little tuning and leaned it out a bit with the AFC and removed 2 of the honey combes in the MAS, and it runs much better now.

im also getting the multiple missfire code and it runs crappy (misses under regular driving) but it goes back to normal after i rev it a couple times in neutral and clear the code with the logger.
