I have a 90 Talon TSI and it is constantly smoking white smoke out the tailpipe after startup, and when you try to give it some gas, a gigantic cloud of white smoke comes pouring out the tailpipe. It smell like coolant, so I thought it was a BHG, but the compression is 140-145 on all cylinders using a dry compression test. After the car is running a while it also starts to smoke around the exhaust manifold toward the o2 housing and downpipe and I see some fresh oil around that area too. The car was quite low on coolant, so I filled it back up, but now my coolant is overflowing like a madman. I think it could possibly be the turbo, but how do I check if the turbo is leaking and where from? Is there anything else that could cause this problem that I haven't thought of yet?

Thanks a lot,
Joe

take off the licp and check for oil also check your ic for oil. also check for shaft play in the turbo. do a search see what comes up ive seen a few threads i also have the same problem :D :talon:

You might also want to do a coolant system pressure test. I'm not sure what the tool is called exactly, but you take off the radiator cap and plug it in. Then you pump some pressure into the system, and see if coolant leaks out anywheres. That should help out a bunch.

I like this idea, do that.

But, if it is smoking from that area, I would check the turbo too.

Update: I just took the intercooler off and found oil in it and both of the intercooler pipes are coated with oil on the inside. The compressor side looks fine and spins freely, but I have yet to take off the whole thing. Does this sound like a blown turbo?

Thanks

Yes, it is, you probably cracked the exhaust housing.
