Alright a new problem. I recently changed my oil pan gasket I put it back on no problem. Now my car smokes a lot and sprays what looks like water out of the exhaust with little pieces of what looks like carbon. A little bit bluish but mostly white. I checked my pan and it's not leaking or anything. I recently used sea foam so that might be it. But what I'm really worried about is I looked at my timing belt and it looked really soft. So I touched it and it rubs off onto my finger. Almost like I can rub away the timing belt. My car isn't overheating. Timing belt isn't hitting anything as far as I can see. I'm kind of brain dead on this one so any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hmmm... I would run a compression test. As to your timing belt, you know as well as everyone else on this forum that DSM+Timing Belt=well, bad combination. Replace the belt. How long has it been on the car, and how much play does the belt have up and down? But back to the first problem.

Blue smoke could mean a couple things. Your valves, rings, could be going out, your car might have eaten a smurf...

When you replace the timing belt, take the valvecover off, check the piston walls for excess wear.

When you replaced the oil pan gasket, did you replace anythign else along with it such as bearings?

when does it smoke? when you let off the gas after accellerate? when you accellerate? switch gears?

also ddavisaf, you forgot about the turbo causing the car to smoke, without checking your profile it could be the seals on the turbo?

Was the oil pan gasket leaking? Any other gaskets leaking? Dipstick popping out? How are your pcv and breather routed?

I ran a compression test about a week ago if that. I got 180,180,180,190. The belt has been on the car nearly 1 yr. As far as play it has about 1/4 inch of play it seems nice and tensioned. Also I only replaced the oil pan gasket and that is it. I also wanted to mention that the belt is soft only on the left hand side it's weird. I've visually inspected and the only thing I can see is a little bit of oil around the waterpump area but that has been there. A little leak around the trans that has also been there. I'm aware my car could use a rebuild 170k+,but what surprises me is these problems started only after the oil pan gasket change.

Thanks for your quick replies by the way.

It smokes only under medium to hard acceleration basically anything above 1 psi. At idle sometimes as well, but not constantly only sparatically. As far as the turbo I'll check that out again, but last time I checked it about 2 weeks ago it had very very little in and out shaft play. No oil anywhere.

Yes, the oil pan was leaking before. Exactly where from I don't know, but It seems to me that the turbo oil return line was the one leaking. Pcv I haven't touched and breather is just using a filter.

Also, I wanted to mention that one thing I that feels weird on the car while driving it is, while boosting I can feel it accelerating in like stages as in not constant, but it's not that noticable.

I suspect you probably have crankcase pressure/ventilation issues causing oil leakage at the oil pan gasket. Now that you have sealed up the gasket, pressure is finding it's way out some where else like turbo seal or valve seals. This is what I would do.

1. Check the turbo for shaft play, free spin and oil in licp.

2. Hook up pressure tester to the turbo inlet, open the oil cap and see if you hear or feel air during the pressure test.

Will try #2 Thankyou!

Just wanted to finish off the thread. My car no longer smokes. I took everything apart. T25 had a lot of shaft play both in/out and up/down. Put on a 14b no smoke anymore.

As far as the timing belt rubbing off I haven't figured that out yet. Seems like its melting away. I have an entire timing kit to put on, but Im still trying to find out whats happening to the current one before I put on the new one.

Note: I don't recommend using a gasket on the oil pan. Its starting to slide out and leak. I'll be using rtv just like oem next time.
