I just installed my boost gauge and had a few questions, on the T that I recieved with my boost gauage their was like a metal piece of restrictor in the bottom of the T, during install it fell out and I dindt know if It was suppose to be in there so I left it out, My gauge is working I believe, when The car is on it sits at around 30 vacuum and when i get to full boost its only hitting anout 10, now it was late and I was tired so IM going to test this again today, but it looks like my boost is lower than it shoudl be, a stock 95 GSX should be at around 11.5 correct? mine is stopping at more like 9.5 and what is normal for vacuum?

thanks all

Normal vacuum should be 18Hg (-9psi). What does the gauge say when you turn the key on without starting the car? If it doesn't go to 0, the gauge is off.

checked the vacuum lines etc, off the gauge is at 0, when i start the car its at around 20-21

OMG Crawl, I'm sorry I thought your post was some one else giving advice since you mentioned you were getting 30HG at idle. 20-21 HG sounds about right. :thumb:

new problem hehe, Its at around 20 when i start, but as the car warms up sitting it keeps going up and eventually reaches 29-30 LOL. I also noticed that my idle is going up, woudl these be related? BOV leak affect this?

Seems normal to me.. hear any kind of whistling from your enginebay? thats what the bov ussually does if its leaking bad

vacuum going up to 30 and my idle going up to 1300-1500 is normal? I hear a high pitch noise but I dont know if its comming from my BOV, i thought it was my new alternator. My BOV is def leaking because I turned the MBC up all the way (as a test, wtched the gauge carefully) and it pekaed at 12 psi, i think i might have hit 13 once. Im wishing i gave it a day between installing shit because now I have too many things to look through and its frustrating the crap out of me

It's always a good idea to install one thing at a time when it's possible, give us a complete list of parts installed and any problems prior to all the installation.

Are you still on the stock 2g plastic BOV? if so then yes its definitly leaking.. if not then do a boost leak test and take your time and spray everything with soap and water.

yes i already know its leaking, my question was if that would affect idle, vacuum going up , etc..

With a leak it shouldnt increase vacuum.. but if your idle is that high and wont go down you need to adjust your intake manifold throttle plate that is connected to the throttle cable. and then re-adjust the biss, make sure all this is done at running temperater.

ok before i installed these parts I had no problems except for belts squeeling dramatically, kept replacing belts but it was clear something else was wrong. I ordered a new alternator along with my boost gauge, manual boost controller, new intake pipe, Power steering pump, new belt, and replaced 90% of the vacuum lines

Now like the jackass I am I installed almost all of it without any testing until i was completed, so I dont know what caused what

I went to start the car, and it was stalling if i revved it up, troublehsooted for a while and put back in the stock intake pipe and car ran fine ... for a bit

Decided since that intake wasnt workgin I woudl do the very common dump tube cut, did that , made sure it was 100% sealed and the car was still stalling. At the same time I opened my hood to find one of my spark plug wires not connected, it had popped out, so i pushed it back down thinking perhaps i had accidently pulle dit off, well i went fopr a drive came back and it was popped off again. So i bought new wires, well before I could even buy new wires I now have formed a Knocking noise , very low tone, I assume from running on "3 cylinders" when i didnt know the plug wire was unplugged. Stalling still occuring so i went to Home depot and bought a 6" long piece of 1" pvc and used it for a new dump tube and stalling is almost gone, the car has still stalled on me 3 tims but only after driving for a while and usually when I push int he clutch and turn at the same time. I turned the MBC all the way up as a test and boost never went past 12, so the assumption was made that the BOV is crap and not holding any boost. I ordered a new BOV and UICP which will be here monday.

back to installation: I was installing the new alternator and PS pump, so i got the alternator out(the bolt that goes trhough the back is messed up now and i cant get the bolt back on it so i ordered a new one that i will be picking up from mitsu, i was told that not being on there could possibly cause it to not be grounded right and causing the wine im hearing? ) and autozone gave me the wrong PS pump so that didnt fit i ended up reinstalling the old one nad flushign the fluid. Then i put in the new alternator and the car woudlnt start. Finally sanded the terminals and solved any starting issues i had.

Thats pretty much where I am at. I also have a transmission fluid leak that is getting checked out today. Im getting very close to finding a home at the bottom of a lake for this car. This car is making me wish Id stuck with my cavy, it may not have been AWD, but for hte money ive sunk itno this car including the cost of hte car id easily have my cavy over 250hp by now and that car never gave me any problems compared to this pos

Hey man i havent been workgin with DSM's and this is my first turbo , I dont know all that much about how the vacuum bost or BOV works, so to be its not obvious, I understand that a BOV not holding pressure will clearly affect boost, but Its not obvious to me that it would or how it woudl affect vacuum or idle. If i sound arrogant its becaue this car is frustrating the shit out of me and really stressing my life out, this is my daily driver and only vehicle and I have had nothing but problems since i purchased it in january.

heh i mad ethat post then you changed yours :p

Well my idle is all over the place, when i first start it its at 800ish then rises to 1500 if i leave the car idling in the driveway, usually if i go for a drive the idle comes back down but if i drive it for a while it goe sback up.

EWWWWWWW did you just say CAVY? as in cavalier? those cars are disgusting and powerless.. uhm ya you seem to have alot of little issues, I wouldnt complain it could be much worse.

exactly, might want to make sure your TPS sensor didnt reposition itself on the throttle body by ohm testing it, and more then likely your idle issue is your throttle cable plate or cruise control cable isnt tight enough, i had the same issues with a wierd idle and i fixed mine by messing with the tps and adjusting the cables. GO fiddle with it now i gaurentee that will fix it, good luck

well, i considered them little problems until a few days ago and Now i can hear the Knock which i believe is a piston and my tranny is leaking.

I will check the things you mentioned, I need to get a multimeter so i can test things like that, but I wil check the cables to start with at least, thanks alot man I appreciate this help

And btw: The cavy is powerless compared to a TSI or a GSX , but I would have taken a 420a anyday :p (neon... ewwww)

oh yeah, is there any writeups on adjusting these cables, I have the faq on the TPS :)
