So I just got some onsoku plug wires and some denso iridium plugs. Everything seems fine.

But at idle, I hear this loud ticking noise. I figure it was probably just lifter tick, but as the RPM's go up, so does the rate of the ticking. It ticks really fast in the upper RPM's, and it's definitely audible, although not SUPER loud.

I've had lifter tick issues in the past, but they always go away once the car starts moving. This ticking sound, however, will not dissapear. I;ve searched and noone had this rpm-related ticking sound. Any help is really appreciated I am getting desperate beause I can't afford any more repairs on my car right now.

I doubt it has anything to do with the plugs and wires, it could have been happening earlier I just might not have heard it. However with the windows down it's very audible, with them up I can't really hear it. Engine seems to be running fine otherwise.

If you have a turbo, get rid of those iridiums. Even if you don't, you're spending far too much for sparkplugs you can change out in five minutes. Iridiums are fine if you have a GM V6 that requires the firewall be moved back six inches to do a plug change, but they're pointless in DSMs.

If you're sure it's lifters, the quickest and cheapest band-aid can be a can of RESTORE from Wal*Mart. I have no idea why, but DSM lifters seem to like the crap, and there's nothing there that'll hurt any of the rest of the engine.

I thought lifters weren't RPM dependent? Also, this noise happens all the time, lifters only happen at idle right?

Lifters are definitely RPM dependent...they get quicker and possibly louder the higher the RPMs shoot. But most of the time you can't hear it when you get into the higher RPM range.

How does this restore method work? I'll give it a try. I didn't think it was the lifters, but it might be

Restore has never worked for me, but its a additive to your oil, you can purchase it at Walmart for like $5 or $6 a can. Get the 4 cylinder one. Drain your oil, switch the oil and filter, the usual oil change. Then add in the restore as a replacement for 1 quart of oil.

I personally don't think this is a fix more like band aid.

You pay money, lift hood, open the oil cap, pull tab on top of can, pour into oil filler hole, replace oil cap, discard empty can in a enviromentally-conscious way, close hood and drive.
