MY CAR WOULDNT START...JUMPED IT ONCE LET IT RUN TURNED IT OFF AND IT WOULDNT START AGAIN. INSTALLED NEW OPTIMA RED TOP BATTERY AND IT STILL WILL NOT START. THE DASH LIGHTS ARE ON WHEN KEY IS TURNED TO ACCESSORY ALL DASH LIGHTS ARE ON, WHEN WE TRY TO START IT WE HEAR A CLICK AND THEN IMMEDIATLY EVERYTHING DIES...WE WAIT ABOUT 5MINS. AND THE VOLTMETER GOES BACK TO ABOUT 12. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY P.O.S. :sosad: :dsm:

Really need a little more info. You have 12 volts prior to trying to start, turn the key, get the click, everything goes out, then no volts?

Your veh. profile says manual. Can you roll start? If so, do a starter current draw.

Stupid question...how do you do a roll start?
What is the most common part to go out at 163k mi...related to starting the engine...no idea when it was last replaced. I have had the car since 154,760
 
Get in your car and find someone that can push the car forward while you are inside the car. Press the clutch and engage 2nd gear, when you gain enough speed, let go the clutch pedal and the car will start. It can be done in reverse too.

If someone can explain it a lil better. But thats the idea.

I don't understand what it is you are wanting us to say. It's not like anyone has a chart of what will go out on a car and when. Is there something wrong with your car or are you just asking a question in general? WTF

There was a post..."You Might Be A DSMer if..." and one of em said "you start modding your car, and something goes wrong(i.e. starter or alternator)".....Sorry..that is where i got the feeling maybe it deffinitly needed to be replaced. I am going to try to do a rolling start, but some of you have said 1st gear and some have said 2nd gear...which do you recomend?
 
do roll starts do any harm or tend to mess anything up ie: clutch, flywheel, anything? I really want to figure out the problem and what is causing it...I suppose that all of you are saying the starter solinoid, any last second comments on what it could be besides relays...how do i check those they looked good and can the solinoid go bad instantly or is it usually gradual? b/c mine was instant
 
Roll starts wont do any damage.

Also when my starter died, I tried to start the car but I could only hear a "weeeeeen" noise, like something spinning inside the engine. If you hear that then its the starter.
