Ok I blew my head gasket awhile ago, finally got the money for the parts. I upgraded my cams at the same time, from stock 90 cams to hks 272's.

The guy that did my timing knows his stuff and everything lined up perfect before we cranked the car, we even rotated the engine a couple of times once the belt was on and timed just to make sure everything was good. Go to start and its idles like crap.

My timing at idle was 22* way off so I thought, this was read off my logger. The car would choke and not pull at all, and it was idling like crap. So I figured the CAS was 180 off, so I pull it and rotate it around put it back in, now my timing sits between 10-12* at idle so its still high. The idle went from rough to alot better after playing with the CAS some, it was sitting down at 650-700 at idle, and is now 850-900 at idle.

My vacuum on my boost gauge sits at 5 at idle, it use to read 10 before the headgasket blew. So is my timing just off by a hair, and that's the reason for the performance dump? I have already tested for boost leaks at it holds 20 psi solid, no leaks. So I know the vacuum sitting at 5 isn't a boost leak. Also when I took it out on a run, the timing on the logger would read up to 35-40*. Which I'm way lost on that, how the heck can it be that advanced? I thought you were lucky to get into the mid 20's.

So I need some suggestions, please!

First off, you can't read base timing off of your logger. You need a timing light for that. Once you get that set, it should smooth out performance alot. As for the vaccuum at idle, the only person I know that has a good set of cams on his DSM gets around 5-10 inHG vaccuum as well. I get a little over 20 at 750rpms and about 28-29 after I rev the motor with stock cams.

Thanks for the input, I found that out before I read your post. My friend has a timing light and he is going to help me out this Saturday. He also told me that my vaccum is fine at 5 psi with the HKS 272's in. Thanks for the help though.
