ok guys, i just bought a 1990 eagle talon TSI and it doesn;t run.

im not asking for help on that, i should be able to figure that out on my own.

ive changed the ECU because it was fried, from a cap leaking.

i can hear the main relay click, but im still not getting fuel or spark.

i bought this car not running, and lots of the plugs were unhooked from the previouse tech trying to solve the problem.

this plug is just laying in the engine bay and i need to know where it goes. i think its why im not getting power.

thanks

That looks like the plug for the transistor. If it is it should be under the coil pack, it should plug in right near the coil plug. That will most definitely cause a no spark situation.

Thanks. i finaly saw some of the orange sealer puddy they put in the plug around the coil pack and then finaly found where this plug goes.

the car runs, but cylinders 2 and 3 have no sparke.

1 and 4 are running fine.

is there a way to test the coil pack?

also is there a site i can order the clip that holds the 6 terminal plug in? mine is missing.

P.S. sorry imagestation wasn't working right away. the picture should be vissable now. :thumb:

You can get a clip from the dealer. There is a way to test the coil, but honestly I don't know the specs offhand. You can find it in a manual (which you should have if you're working on the car. be a good DSMer and get one). But since 2 and 3 aren't sparking, it probably is a bad coil, since 1 and 4 have their own coil, and 2 and 3 have their own.

I use a program called alldata at school.

its like an online helms manual. but i only have accsess to it at school. but it has all of the wireing diagrams and stuff.

just need to know what to print off and i can get the info.

everything looks to be inplace now. like i said i got the car not running, and it was all pulled apart from the last mechanic trying to fix the car.

ive replaced the ECU, the origanal one was burnt, and im replacing the caps in the new one i have as a prevention.

just need to figure out why 2 and 3 arn't fireing. tomarow im ganna try and bring home FLUKE 87 to test the coils ohms.

the car came to me with the wires hooked up.

ill double check them and see if that fixes it.

thanks

ive seen people with a no spark on 1 and 4 before. but have found nothing for 2and 3.

usualy the 1/4 was caused by cam sensor.

anything control spark on 2/3?

plug wires are correct.

anyone know if there is a quick and easy way to test the coil?

also the cam sensor sends a signal for 1 and 4, so that should be good because 1 and 4 are fireing.

so its either the coil pack, circut running to second coil pack, from ECU, or could have something to do with the transistor pack.

i have a newer used coil, im ganna have to read up on how to pull the old one and put the new one in. :(

You've already stated what I would have guessed...Bad coil pack or transistor pack. Is there anything leaking out of the coils? Any wires disconnected or fried off?

When you say you have a new coil, does that mean you have both together in a coil pack, or just an individual coil (that would fire 2 spark plugs) Swapping the coils isn't really that hard at all. Just make sure you solder your wires. If you mess it up, I've got a working 1g transistor pack and coil pack if you need it. I didn't catch where you were from, but if you want to use either to test your car feel free to stop by.

well i got the car running, and then it died again, and now its running.

Hear is what i think the problem is.

the previouse mechanic, decided to front probe the plug i pictured, and made the terminals to big. (NEVER FRONT PROBE A TERMINAL IN AN ENGINE HARNESS PLUG!!!!!!!)

ok with that said.

i tried to fix the terminals but i think im still getting a bad connection.

so im ganna try and buy a new plug terminals and 6" of wire to resoder in and fix the problem.

the same problem exists with the plug directly above the transistor pack, it has 4 terminals in it. :thumbdown
