My car is hard to start when it is cold. Doesn't matter what temperature it is outside. It will fire off then die and I'll have to keep doing that until it finally takes off. Kind of like a carbed vehicle that isn't getting gas or is flooded. It seems that the engine gets warmed enough and then fires off, but then it idles really high. Constantly at anywhere from 1400 to 2000 rpms. I've changed the ecu which took care of my old surge problem and I just changed the throttle body because I thought my stepper motor was bad. It actually idles faster now (once I finally got it to start). I'm going to look into the fast idle air valve and a possible vacuum leak. I also am wondering if my temp sensor could cause the hard cold start or my bov. Any suggestions would help. I've been working on this thing for about 3 years now and I seem to get one thing fixed just to find that something else doesn't work right. :(

I would check the temp sensor, there are two wires connected to the sensor on the thermostat housing, its common for one (if not both) of these wires to break, and if one of them were to break it would cause the car to be a b@#ch to start. so check those first. hope this helps...

Ok, I fixed the hard start problem. Both wires were broken on the coolant sensor to the ecu and one was to the a/c sensor. I also adjusted my biss and it actually idles normal sometimes. I'm still have a problem with that though. I got it set and then I drove it. When I got back it was idling fast again, so I adjusted it. Then when I went to start it later, it was idling too low. Kinda going back and forth with that. If it sits idling for awhile it will usually idle down, but it takes a good 10 or 15 minutes. I'm going to keep looking for vacuum leaks and change all my rubber hoses and lines as well as my gaskets. I sprayed ether around the stuff to see if I had a vacuum leak but I couldn't find one. I also thought about taping off the fiav, but I'm not sure what that would do. Anymore suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
