wierd knocking noise

Wondering if anyone can possibly diagnose this for me. The knock is pretty intermittent but it just got worse today. It gradually is getting a little louder too. If I get up to speed, and let off it will do it a little bit but very very faint. If I give it just the very slightest bit of gas is when you can really tell it is there. That's the main part right there. Ive noticed tonight when turning right and hitting a little bump it will knock once. The knock doesnt get faster or slower with rpms either so Im pretty much ruling out it being in the engine. It seems to me more like a driveline issue. It doesnt happen all the time either. It comes and goes like I said but has done it most often tonight. The main thing though is that the noise really seems to take effect when I just press the gas very very lightly. Any more than that it goes away from what I can tell.

Any thoughts? Guess Im driving the neon for a while. Oh...by the way this is happening in my auto 93 awd tsi.

hm, is it when ur at high speeds?
and you let off too?

it might be somthin in your tranny could be goin??
but i had the same problem in my car and then it got really bad and sounded alot like a rod when it was at idle but you would rev it up and it would go away,
esp when you would push the clutch in so we pulled my tranny to check all that and check the flywheel . and it ended up just being the fly wheel was really lose. So maybe thats your problem? try pushing the clutch in when it happens and see if it goes away~

Well first off it's an auto so no clutch. Secondly it isnt at high speeds. Actually Im not sure if it is but I noticed it louder tonight just cruisin really low speeds like 20-40mph. Also it makes no noise whatsoever at idle. It's just when I give it the slightest bit of gas it starts knocking. Is there something in the drivetrain that stays stationary but doesnt spin until you give it gas? Or something that is turning but doesnt engage till you step on the gas? Maybe this is somewhat of a clue. Someone on my local board mentioned an axle maybe. It could be since Ive been practicing launching more lately but Im still on the lowly 13g so it isnt like Im launching too hard. It's possible it is the flywheel though since it doesnt seem like it is anything in the engine itself. An axle seems more like what it might be though because of the one knock it makes when I had gone over the same bump twice tonight only turning right and not left.

If it is the axle, what do I look for as far as getting another axle? Must it be from an awd, or from a 4 bolt or what? Keep that as a secondary question right now though since I havent had enough opinions on what it could be. Thanks for your input though JDR.

I have a problem with 93 dsm i have a wierd knocking noise coming from the pulleys. If anyone knows about this can you tell me which pulley you had trouble with and how you fixed it. THANX!!
