Strange sound on startup

I have a 91 TSI with quite a few upgrades, check my profile for listing, and I have just started to get this strange squeel sound for a second on startup in cold weather... like 30 or below.. I will crank the motor and right before it starts I get a squeel or a squak... any idea what it is... I was thinking oil pressure comming up or something but I am not sure... everything else is fine when the car is running and it boosts well...

could be the turbo turning over as exhaust air turns it....

could it be a belt sound you are hearing

I get the exact same noise, just as you describe it, and also only in very cold weather. I think it's one of the accessory belts but I'm not 100% positive. The oil pressure suggestion seems plausible,but I doubt it. One last possibility is your crank pulley might be separating so you might want to check that. I've checked mine and it seems fine, so it leads me back to thinking it's the belts that's the culprit.

figured it out... it is the starter stickin a little

How did you figure it was the starter? And what did you do? Lube it?

havent fixed it yet... just plan on getting a new one some time, I work at an auot parts store so parts are cheep for me....

No you can hear it grind a little after you start up if you listen under the hood... like it is not comming back all the way..
