Alright I just bought a 1994 mitsubishi eclipse gs with the 1.8. I have been learning to drive it for the last couple days because it is my first stick shift car and I am pretty good at it, but i get nervous on hills. Today it was wet outside and I was at a red light on a hill and I think I revved the engine a bit to high when I let out the clutch and the wheels lost traction and I heard/felt the engine jump. right then and there the exaust got real loud and now my car sounds like a 1960's big block v-8 with straight pipes. I am guessing there is a leak in the exaust because of how it sounds, but I am looking for suggestions on what it is, and what to do about it. please help me man, I just got this car and waxed it real good and got the tint residue out of the window and it was all going good until now. Any help is appreciated

Im assuming it still drives the same, its just loud? Check to see if your exhaust is loose anywhere. Sounds like its loose around the cat. maybe. Good luck learning, stay away from hills, and take it wasy on that clutch..LOL

Thanks for the reply, yea it still drives the same but loud. I can smell the exaust when I am sitting at a stop light too. I really hope I didn't damage anything that will cost a lot of money. I hope it's just somthing that got knocked loose. I will check it as soon as I get a chance.

is the car noticeably louder while idling or mostly while driving and hitting the gas pedal? the louder the car is the worse the leak is, do a visual check underneath the car especially towards the front at the flex pipe which is apart of the down pipe. Look for rust and possibly broken sections. My guess is thats where your leak is, but good luck with that. I'm currently throwing a code that doesnt allow me to even drive my :talon: but thats a different mess.

You know? I forgot about that. That is very good possibility. Mine completely unraveled one night. Pretty easy fix if so. :thumb:
