Sidney,
Ever since I got my 91 AWD Talon it has had this clunk after I shift as I'm letting off the clutch. If I'm really careful and slowly let the clutch out its fine. There isn't much of a noise, just a clunk feeling, like I'm being pushed forward. Weird thing is it only happens at lower RPM (between 2500-3500) and at higher RPM I either can't feel it or its not there. I checked all my motor mounts and they seem to be in good shape. Any ideas what this could be?

another thing I forgot to mention is its only noticeable on upshifting. Downshifting is pretty smooth. Again, any ideas on where to start would be great.

My car has a broken motor mount that I thought I fixed and by just looking at it, you couldnt tell but, If you put your hand on the motor (while off and cool) and push, if it moves at all then yes your motor mounts do need attention. Most likely your front mount is truely toast. Whether it be the casting broke away from the motor, or the actual mount is broken. I would look alot closer at them all the same. If your front mount is broken away from the block then PM me and I'll let you in on a way to fix it with out welding anything. ;)

Doesn't seem like motor mounts, I shook the hell out of it and could barely get it to move although there was a bit of play, but it was wasn't noticeable with almost all my force. Is that little bit of movement normal?

Check for excessive freeplay in the rear Driveshaft Carrier Bearing. They tend to wear out over time allowing the driveshaft to "slap" the top of the housing during shifts causing the "thump" sound your hear.

Can either replace it (~$55) or as a cheep fix pump full of silicone caulk.

seems like the rear driveshaft carrier bearing has a bit of play. Checked the U joints and they seem fine. This is my 2nd transfer case and problem still exists so thats not it. i'll try packing it full of silicone as per VFAQ, might be a while tho, got no time til after exams. Hopefully thats it and not the diff... Thanks for the advice
