WEll last week my gas light came on, and a couple hours after driving the car it died in the middle of the highway! My engine shut off, the rpms went all the way down and the steering got tight, but i was able to pull it over to the side. Then when I tried to start it all it did was kick but no start. My cousin said he thought it was the fuel pump. I still have a warranty on the car so the guy at the dealer had the car all week and gave it back to me on friday. He said it was the crankshaft and now its all good as new. Now that I have it the gas like is still on. but the tank still has more than half a tank? does anyone know what it could be? dont want break down again!

well u could check if ur car is getting fuel, do that first, ur pump could be show or ur gas is actaully really low and ur float is just stuck, check that out

floater is messed up,or a wire to the floater has a bad ground..or the instrument guage has a short..causing the gas light to be continuously on...

How could i check for all this? The car does actually have gas though. I was just put in how would i check everything else

do u think maybe it is just sumthin electrically wrong or is the car going to die on me? what is the float and how do i check that?

so it might not be nothing that important? just a blown sensor? I hope so, also my car seems to cause a lottttttt of smoke when i start it up... I am guess because i havent been able to start it up all weekend and it has been really coldddd... that should not effect the gas right? I am basically afraid to drive anywhere to far, because i dont wanna break down on the highway again... is there anyway of knowing that it is a sensor? also what is a crankshaft? for some reason that was way my car broke down last time? any idea what that is, what it is for or why it even went bad?

The crankshaft is basically plays one of the biggest rolls in the engine. The pistons are connected to it then the timing belt conects the the crankshaft and the camshafts together. So basically the crank spins everything in the engine. As far as checking the sensor. Take it to your local Mitsubishi dealer and have them hook it up to the computer. It will tell you what sensor is bad. As far as the smoke that wouldnt have anything to do with the gas. :) :dsm:
