I have been doing research I have two Pre-June 1990 throttle bodies (one off the car, one on the car). My shaft seals are leaky very badly (car only makes 15-16 inches of vacumn). I wanted to rebuild one of the throttle bodies with new seals, but in the course of my research, I have found that the early 1990 TB seals are not accessible. Is that true???? It sure seems like it because I took the TPS off and there is a retaining clip unlike I have seen in any of the VFAQ pics.

If that's the case, what can I do! I have 3 1990 freaking throttle bodies with 1990 ISC (female connector). Are late 1990 TB seals replaceable? What about converting to a 91-94 style and using on of my ISC motors on it? Would that work?

Any comments, suggestions, or stories please!

i dont know first hand - but all that stuff went togather, so im sure it can come appart and id think its got seals. sence you have a few exter t/b's id try ripping one totaly appart and see what i can figure out.

I have rebuilt two of them so far. First time failed, second time it worked. It is tough but it can be done. Did you read both of the vfaq articles? One of them gives you the dimensions for the o-rings needed. I was able to find the o-rings at my local hardware store.

I actually have read both of the vfaq's, but those TB's didn't look anything like the one I have. When I took the TPS off, a small black ring came out. I know that's not the seal because I can see the surface in which the seal rides. Now after I took the TPS off, I saw one of those little E-shaped retaining clips. Now do you have to remove the other side with the throttle linkage to be able to get that clip out by pushing the shaft through? I have an assorted o-ring set so I can find the best fit, I just need to be able to get them off.

I managed to get it apart. The seals are two different sizes, anybody know a good size o-ring to use?
