Bad 2G engine?

I've got a 98 Talon TSi AWD, but it used to have a 6-bolt in her. Now she's got a stock 2G back in her (before I bought it). I was driving her the other day, and revved her up into the 7k+ range... then I lost a huge amount of power... I was losing major boost, basically had none at all, and the car wanted to stall on me all the time... I also had some loud knocking... far louder than the normal lifter tick I hear now and again...

I limped the car home, less than 2 miles. When I got her home, I checked everything out, and the BOV had popped loose, it seems the fastener was loose, so I figured that would have explained my loss of boost and my stalling...

But there is still a loud knock when the engine revs over 2k. A buddy of mine said it sounded like a wrist pin had snapped... I am not really sure what's wrong with it, but the sound is like someone hitting the block with a heavy wrench... and it's in line with the RPMs, so the higher it revs the more frequent the knock..

I'm thinking it's trashed. Anyone have this issue? I am wondering if the BOV coming off was a coincidence or if it was the cause of the problem...

ya the motore is knocking, caused by a spun bearing! sorry but i think u should start looking for a 6 bolt motor

Ok, so it seems a done deal that the motor is bad. My original upgrade plan had included a racing 6 bolt motor probably within 12 to 18 months. Now, I can get another 2G motor and install it cheap, or I can spend a non-trivial amount more and get a used 6 bolt. I really don't have the cash to accelerate my upgrade plan to get the racing motor at this time...

So, what is the thoughts about replacing the 2G motor with another 2G, when the intention is that it only needs to be functioning for 12-18 months? I might have one lined up... from a 97 GSX Auto... so the crank walk issue is less likely... all cylinders pushing over 170 in the compression test. Any thoughts?
