I took my car to a shop last week and they charged me $110 to resurface my front rotors. Now my front passanger wheels lugnuts are loosing themselves after driving on the HWY!! They said they replaced one of the lugnuts for whatever reason so I'm not sure if that is related. I tighten them up with my lugnut wrench and they stay tight until I get on the HWY. The threads don't seem stripped because I can tighten them all the way with the wrench. What the hell could be causing this??? Please HELP... Thanks

well what are they torqued to? or were they? guessing they weren't. which of course could be a good reason as to why. what did they tighten them with? also, did they put antiseize on the threads?

I'm not sure how they tightened them. I would think it would be 70-90 lbs??? I figured when I tightend them with my lug wrench they would have stayed tight seeing as I gave them all a nice tug on after they were tightend?? Is it a good idea to put antiseize on them ?? I was thinking of doing that put was worried they might not come off if I did. Thanks Much for any info ideas!! I don't want to end up in a ditch.

no, don't put it on there. some cars need it like bmw, etc. and some that use aluminum lug nuts (those could go about 60-70 pounds). cause they an snap really easy as well. i've always torqued mine to 100. doing it with a torque wrench is much better than hand or by an impact even. i've even seen cases where guys i've worked with in the past used an impact cause they could "feel" how tight the lugs were. of course they had to pay to get the fender replaced and repainted etc. from when the tire came off. torque wrench is ALWAYS best. if you still have problems then, then something's defaintely wrong.

You should use anti-seize so that later removal of the lug nuts will be easy and lubricated threads will give the fasteners(lug nuts) better clamping because when tightening any fasteners somewhere up to 80% of torque is lost just to overcome the friction while tightening. It just sounds like they didnt tighten the lug nuts so just put some anti-seize and torque them to 75-85lbs. By the way, if you payed 110 to just resurface rotors then you got completely ripped but if you payed 110 for pads and resurface rotors then thats pretty decent.

Great. Thanks for all the info! This is sketching me out BIG TIME! I've never had this problem before so I was a little PO'd to say the least. And yes, I KNOW he bent me over and gave it to me by charging me $110 to resurface my ROTORS!!! That's what I get for not going all the way across town to MY GUY that knows DSM's and is a respectable mechanic. The ONLY reason I went to this guy is because my friend who writes insurance for businesses suggested them and I went with it .> BIG mistake. Either way, I'm going to his shop and will make him raise the car on the lift while I'm there and then take the wheel off to check it out. I swear whenever I'm not a complete a$$hole I get shat all over by businesses. Then, when Mr Hyde comes out and I start freaking it's all Yes sir , I'm sorry sir, we'll do what we can ASAP. Not take my car and not call me and let me know whats happening with my car!! How RUDE! Agghhh, people piss me off! (Rant off) This shop was clean and looked good but that goes to show .. Don't judge a business by it's cleanliness.
