hey.....ive done searches but nothing comes up regarding my situation. I pulled out my dash (pita) and i'm trying to pull out the box that contains the heater core. Ive disconnected everything that i thought would hold the box in, i pull and pull and it moves but theres still something holding it in place. if anybody has changed a heater core before, is there something i'm missing here can you let me know? is there a certain order in which you have to take out the blower first? its hard not getting fustrated and saying "F" this thing and rip out all that crap, but a little part of me says your gonna need heat this winter. any input on how to take this peice out is appreciated, Thanks

I removed everything, but didn't put it back it. I know you will have to take out the blower, evaporator, and everything before you take out the heater core. Did you disconnect the heater hoses running into the back of it from the thermostat housing. Also I had to take the bolts out of the metal framework that holds you computer, and move that framework back to get the core out. It has to come out away from the dash before you can take it out the passenger side. It sucks, but you should see how much room there is with all of that out. I could hide anything under there.

So do you actually have to take the dash out to get to the core? OR can it just be unbolted nad moved? I have a 90 tsi awd and the heat doesnt work, The fan works but no heat, The dude said the heater core was broken. Or is there anything else it might be?

Sure do, the entire dash has to come out. Took me a 6-7 hours to do it the first time. Check your water lines that go to the heater core as well. I had to replaced mine because it leaked water all over the place and was blocked off for years by a previous owner.
