Igloo Village,
Ok, so I posted about the car having alt issues. Car has a new alt and was ok for a like a day but now its having starting issues. (we will fix the power steering seals asap)

When trying to start , it wont....the lights on the dash wont even come on when turning to accessory etc. Played with the car for a while and it just wouldnt do anything.
left the key in.
and about 2 mins later there was a "click" noise and the lights came on...and the car could start!!!!

So, my brother thought it was the alarm acting up so he ripped it out. (its his car)

Im wondering if that will cause issues. he tries to start again and it wouldnt. same issues as before. just nothing! no dash lights etc.

then 2 mins later..click and the lights go on... wtf is going on?

is a relay on its way out or is something else up? (ecu taking a crap?)

car ran fine for 2 years. move to a new city and take it to a known shop to get something fixed and since that day the car has been acting up a lot!!! way to fishy imo! :thumbdown

any ideas?

thanks for any help!

More probs and or symptoms will be posted after I speak to him again.

car is a 92.5 dsm awd -t. 6 bolt.

anyone..
heres something he sent to me via email.

1-new alternator put in friday. Battery recharged to 12v from 5v.
2- car was fine all week end, and monday day.
3-went out to start it on monday night to go home to apt.
4-put key in ignition, tuned to start position.
5- no stater motor action, but alarm ( not armed) went off. Horn sounded all funny. Remote had no effect ( arm/disarm)
6-I pulled the positive (fused) wire from the battery (+) terminal that led to the alarm housing.
7-the alarm ceased to sound.
8-went start the car. No dash or in car lights illuminated. no stater motor action.
9-waited two minutes. Called for jump start.
10-after two mi nutes, there was a "click" sound.
11-dassh lights, footwell lights illuminated. Car started.
12-drove home to apt. car was hesitating somewhat at anything over 1/4 throttle.
13-shut down car in underground garage.
14-waited thirty seconds. tried to start car.
15-stater motor turned once, car did not start thought.
16-all dash lights and footwell lights went completely black.
17-tried to start again, no stater turn over. dash lights footweels lights all out.
18-traced alarm wiring, and cut it out of the car.(it is two peices in my back seat)
19-faint faint "door ajar" light, but no dash lights, footwell lights.
20-tried to start car again, no starter turn over, no nothing...

I think this battery is toast now. I will try to see if a new battery will fix it, and hope that it was the alarm that was draining the battery parasitically. I will have the power steering motor seals done (I hope no fluid or not too much leaked onto the alternator, it's not even a week old yet).
I don't think the alarm was wired to an imobilizer( I sure hope not!).

any thoughts?

ok,,i was doing some reading and it sounds like an ignitor, coil pack or the ecu.
hrmm
ill get him to check it..
thanks!

Ok, so supposedly the ecu checked out alright.

and same with everything else  He took it to the local shop and they said that because the battery had died and he had ahd everything out the ecu had lost some of its calibration and thats why its down on power and being somewhat strange now.....wtf?

the ecus come that much out of wack from the factory? didnt make any sense to me.

i havent talked directly to my bro about it yet. it drives now but still weird(not as crazy as before)

i dont know what to think.

The ECU has nothing to do with any of your accessory stuff. If you unplug the ECU you can still listen to the radio turn your head lights on ect. The engine just wont run the starter should even still work. Any way you've replaced the alternator. If you slow drain a battery like driving around with a dead alternator it reduces the batter's capacity. Did you replace the battery yet? Also check your terminals for rust or acid that may have boiled out of the battery it will make green crust on the terminal.

I had a similar terminal issue on my car after a replaced alternator. I would goto start the car and it would click once then everything blacked out no power...I got out wiggled the terminal and went on my way. Therer was too much corrosion underneath where I couldn't see it and the terminal on the neg side was too loose.
