power steering

Where do you guys find the power steering seals? None of my local part stores have any, and a search in the product catalog here returned nothing. If it's a high pressure system I'm assuming its a brass ring used to seal that T-fitting on the top of the power steering pump... this is leaking oil all over the place, causing me to have to replace my altenator (and almost my battery).

Thanks for any help.

ok first off your the seals you are looking for cannot be bought at the dealership. when you take that nut off and pull the hose off you will see that what the nut screws on to is a stem and can be unscrewed from the pump.you can only by the new stem from mitsu for about $25 and it comes with new seals. all i did was put replace the seals with o-rings and no more leaks for me. but you could replace the whole stem for $25 just because 2 seals went bad.

power steering fluid on the alternator isn't terrible that big of the deal as someone made it out to be. the wires of the alternator coil have an oil resistant coating (i have had a bunch of "powersteering fluid on my alternator for over a year cuz i am to cheap to go to a car wash and power wash it). all you have to do is go to the car wash and power wash your alternator simple as that. plus you shouldn't have powersteering fluid in your power steering pump it should be ATF, aka trans fluid. according to your eclipse manual. and transmission fluid is not as abrasive as power steering so no worries there. plus the circuitry/ ### diode rectifier is pretty much water tight and that is what goes wrong when alternator go bad.

The fluid will destroy your alternator. Trust me.
I had the same problem and replacing the o-rings fixed it. i dont have the part number, but take the old ones to the parts stor and try to match them. I think I may have actually bought a slightly thicker o-ring.

so you say it will well then mine should be dead over 5 times over, a year with fluid on it anyone want to beat that

so you want to explain the design of a induction generator to us

stationary coil, centripetal force oil slings off rotor. water tight electronics if you consider diodes electronics.

Im pretty sure mine is fried, and it wasnt getting on it for more then a couple months. I tried to buy the seal, but they didnt have it. So i got some of that lucas power steering leak stopper. I have put quite a bit on there and so far the leak is still there.

Is there any reason that in trying to turn your power steering into manual that your car wouldn't start? My pump went out and when I took the belt off the car now won't start? I'm lost only thing I can think is that the alternator died too. Can anyone help me?

haveing the powersteering hooked up or not has no effect on the car starting. a matter of fact i have seen many tools cut there belts. and some are such big hypes i have seen people cut all the belts and drive it, till it dies

Unbolt the banjo fitting, use a vise grip and twist the nut out of the pump. There are I believe three o-rings that needs to be replaced on the nut, you can either take the nut to a aoto store to match up the right size o-rings or you can buy one of those metric o-ring "box set" from auto zone like I did for $15. I think I have enough o-rigs for my next three DSMs. :thumb:

as you are useing a vice grip (the tool of the pro's) to destroy the threads or cut into the stem, blah blah a nut that is more like a bolt blah blah, 2 seals total, stick a small screw driver through the hole in the stem and turn it out that way.

I don't know what site you came from but on DSMtunners we speak to each other like adults. You would do much better here if you would learn how to respect others, focus on helping instead of showing off. :thumb:

your mixed up being a smartass is different than being a showoff.

smartass is a compliment, show off isn't.

i dont know how this thread came back after about 3 months but i went to a local dealership the other day and there is a gasket kit for the power steering pump, it includes all gaskets in the pump, its like 25 bucks, i think ill just show them the ones i need and see if they can order them, i dont know any part #s they just handed me a printout of the power steering diagram.
oh yeah, i have been driving the car for about a year now and it has leaked there since i got the car, not one problem with the alternator, i have heard if you take the heat shields off the alternator cant handle the heat, if you took them off and are having problems with the alt. maybe you should put them back on.

On my 1995 Eclipse due to all the upgrades and other problems such as the idle sensor being messed up the power steering pressure switch is not allowing my car to start. When this circuit stays opened or closed it retards the ignition timing. Just thought I would give the helpful hint to all those car buffs out there. Also it will cause your car to idle rough. This my friends was found in the Haynes Manual. Thought I would let you guys out there know seeing that with most of my problems no one has really helped me. Therefore as a female I learned to read and stop asking guys for help. ;) :thumb:
