Ok.. Last week, the car left me stranded in a 'not so good part of town' due to overheating, and me shutting it down to prevent engine damage.

After towing the car about 80 miles home, behind my fathers F150, we got under the hood.

Salt, from the roads in the North East US had rusted out the crimp clip on the bottom and top of the radiator, and the pressure from running finally blew out the seal. Water would come out just about as fast as we could pour it in.

$180 New Radiator (All metal)
$7 New Thermostat (Old one was stuck open)

We replaced the radiator, and the thermostat.

The thermostat that I bought is set for 195 deg, which from reading on here, and various other places, is the suggested temperature.

Maybe its just me, but now, the car runs warmer than before (This may be due to the partially stuck open old thermostat not letting her heat all the way up, not sure)

She still runs below the 'high temp' line on the temperature gauge, but uncomfortably close to it.

The main question is, Is that Normal for this car? Or should I buy a lower temperature thermostat?

Secondly, while we had all of this out, I noticed something. A While back, i posted an image of a wire with a plug on the end of it, that looked like a sensor of some sort went in it, and could not figure out for the life of me where it went.

Well, I think we finally found out where it goes.

On the thermostat housing, there's an area where a sensor of some sorts could be plugged in. Right now, the hole is sealed up, with some silicon and a threaded plug.

What sensor goes there, and are they easy to find?

Anything past straight up is not normal and I would get it checked... you may have air bubbles trapped in your radiator, did you flush it properly?

Not true Jesse, the factory temp gauges are horribly inaccurate, mine will sit a bit past straight up and down and the logger will show a temp of 201 which is perfectly acceptable. I would expect the car to run warmer if it had a stuck open thermostat before.

I do have a gauge pod on the left frame support. I think I will attempt to hook that up this evening, and get an 'actual' temperature from the system.

The sensor for this gauge tho... I am not sure where it would go. Would that be something that would go where the 'missing' sensor on the thermo housing is?

I ask as the gauge pod, along with the oil pressure and water temp gauges came with the car, not hooked up (wires coiled up in the pod).

Thanks
