O.k Fella's, I really need your help, I tried posting a new thread earlier but it didn't post?? I just got my 99 GSX delivered here in VA from TX yesterday and am having a whopper of a problem. Starting and Idling is o.k. but when I engage the clutch to go into 1st gear I have to accelerate more to prevent stalling then it will only sputter and I have to immediately shift to 2nd then it slowly increases speed up to about 20mph and starts to sputter then shift to 3rd...etc. it continues this trend up till 5th and then it will only go up to 45mph MAX!! I really need some place to start since I know very little about DSM's, but am eager to learn. The previous owner said it was running fine before he dropped it off with the vehicle transporation company. He thinks the driver might have stalled it since he had just put in a Clutch masters street/strip clutch and lightened flyweel and jumped the timing...please anybody have any suggestions???

Well, I have a similar problem to yours, except my 1G talon won't go over 25 MPH....I've been told to review the coil pack and power transistor. Does your car misfire or feels like running on a dead battery? I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but you can review my link below.

My thread is located here .... http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141362

I'd start out with a battery test, alternator and coil pack check (if applicable or distrubutor/rotor), spark plugs and wires and possibly your power transistor.

Keep us posted.

Need more info on Mods done to the car. Quit driving it!. Check timing marks, check compression. make sure the Mas plug is connected. That is a start.

Could be an ignition problem, plugs, wires, coil, power transistor. Is it pulling a CEL??? If it is, its some sort of electrical problem. A bad coil or transistor would definately pull a CEL. If not it could be boost leak of some sort. Would have to be a fairly large one tho, like a IC pipe loosely connected if its even connected, which would also cause the A/F gauge to be pegged at rich (green) at all times if that was the case. The only difference is it would cause a rough idle, if the car would even idle. The problem more than likely lies within one of those 2. The ecu could be problem but that is the last place i would check especially with that new of a vehicle. Timing marks could be a problem but i doubt it. Depending on how far it was off you would have some sort of noise with internal damage. If it would happen to be a tooth or 2, if it lied within the cams, it would backfire. If it jumped time it wouldnt run. If that was the case then the person who built it didnt know what the hell he was doing or he got in too big of a hurry. Or he possibly played you for a fool which i dont think is the case :talon:

Hey,
If the car is running really rich, black soot (more than normal) and you're getting really bad gas mileage. You might have a boost leak, that would cause some of the symptoms you're referring to. Check for a boost leak anywhere you have intercooler and/or intake couplings. Good luck.

You have a boost leak I am sure, the same thing happened to me. The top hose fell off of my intercooler because of an oil soaked O-ring.
