So I've had this car for 3 months and have been messing w/ the DSMLink setup, trying to get it to work. I have tried using my laptop and my palm and I just can't get it to connect. I know this isn't the DSMLink user support forum, so I won't bother with those questions. The was tuned by a shop at the previous owners expense, so I haven't had to mess with anything yet - although, I've been trying to.
Anyways, the other night I was parked and I tried to put the car in reverse. The short shifter bolt popped out somehow. So I took apart the console in a parking lot to put the bolt back in so I could make it home and get some thread locker in it. Well, it was still in gear, (though I could not tell because the shifter was flopping in the breeze). The car stalls, no big deal.
After putting the shifter bolt back in, I start the car and immediately get a CEL. It idles high (around 1500) and runs poorly, like it's untuned. I'm thinking that it was a vacuum leak - disconnected intercooler pipe - something to that effect by the symptoms.
Fast forward to today, I'm playing with it and I notice that the SAFC is also not working. I was in a rush to get the car home the other night, and it was late so I just left it sitting on the seat. The car is still running poorly like it's untuned. I can't tune it w/o at least the SAFC heh. I'd much rather use the DSMLink ... which I cannot get to work.
Am I going to be forced to get the DSMLink to work again and retune? What are the possibilities? I checked all the fuses and nothing was blown.
The car is a 95 TSI AWD, fmic, 550's, t3/t4 60 trim, dsmlink, safc. I don't think much info is needed for my wierd problem. I just can't figure out how whatever happened ... happened. It was running perfectly all night and all I did was take apart the console .. maybe I shorted something?
