Ok my problems started four weeks ago. When A knocking sound starting coming from my engine and finally my engine wouldnt run at all. I took it to a independent mech and it sat in his lot for 2 1/2 weeks and he didnt touch it. Since i have no mitsu dealer in my area i took it to the local dodge dealership where they worked on it right away. They told me it was a problem in the head and the valves were bent. They redid my head and with parts and labor it was going to cost me 1200 dollars and i thought i was getting my car back today. But when they went to put back on the pan and noticed that a couple of bearings were shot! They looked and the crank shaft is scoraged! They said it was from low oil at some point and i dont think it was me because i always kept a good eye on it and i have only had they car under a year. (There was a small leak but i always kept an eye on it but who knows about the person before me) I told them to take apart my engine to see exactly what is wrong and they said it will cost another 300 dollars to do that. They estimate for reboring and getting new bearings for the short block with parts and labor around another 1800 dollars. (that is if the short block is salvagable) So i have 1500 invested in the repair already for the head and looking about another 1800 for the short block. My car is only worth about 6g and i am using money i have had saved up for college this fall. What would u do? Part the car out and pay the1500 that i owe on repairs. Or have them redo the short block? Any other suggestions please let me know

Thanks for reading and for the help :dsm:

you can get a decent conditon engine for under 1000 bucks. take your car away from the dealer. park it in your driveway find a new engine and then call up some local dsm buddies and throw the new engine in and your golden

i personally would be pissed they charged u 1800 bucks to do the head then they told you that the crank bearings were out afterwords..

never take your car to any dealer they just shaft you.

Well i talked to the shop....they said the problems are unrelated as far as they know. They said my car would run and it is only a matter of time before the crank gets way into the block. I am not to mad at the dealership and i am glad they let me know about the problem now when the car is already torn apart. Ill know more tommrow about the shape of the block and if i need a new one. :dsm:

I had crankwalk but I put in new thrust bearnings and that gave a new lease on the car's life...700.00 cheap compared to a rebuilt engine...my crank was way outta spec...and I disconnect the starter safety switch....now ya just have to remember to put the car in neutral...o.k??

Mistu charged that I'm sure chrysler would charged the same...also you don't have to take the engine out as well....just drop the pan and go underneath and be sure to ( if you do this yourself or with friends) "take the bearings and bring them to the dealership and they will match up the numbers on those bearings and give you the correct bearing to put in your engine" ( IMPORTANT!!!) good luck!!

accually you dont need to go to satan for the bearings. most autoparts stores can get clevite bearings oversized. if your crank is jacked up then you need to take it to a machine shop and get it ground down. or buy a replacement crank. but grinding is cheaper

you should be able to fix this in your driveway for under 50 bucks.

good lck

I'd have stopped driving it, and gotten it diagnosed and repaired a month ago. But time after time, all we get are stories about people driving damaged engines until they blow up. Because they "had" to.

Thank god we don't ride horses anymore.

Dude i didnt drive it! It has been sitting, waiting to be repaired for a month and I have had no car! As soon as I heard the noise I put it into my garage and had it towed to the repair shop(where it sat for weeks). The problem with noise was because of the warped head and they happend to come apon the problem with my crankshaft! :dsm:
