My first DSM experience is one to be noted!

I bought a 91 Eclipse GS-T with 145,000 miles. It looks nice and runs great. I drove it around several places the day I bought it, not having the first problem. I stopped at one last place before I came home and when I got back in the car to start it, all I heard was a click. I pushed it off to start it and drove it home.

I noticed when I turned the key, the idiot lights on the dash didn't get dim, only the one for the radio. I had someone listen down in the floorboard to see where the clicking noise was coming from. He said he put his hand on the ECU and could feel it clicking. When I turned the key off, a few seconds later you could hear it click, as if disengaging.

I didn't really think it was the battery, but I charged it over night then had it tested under a load, twice and it was fine.

I changed the starter, just thinking that may had been the issue..but that wasn't it either.

I checked the neutral safety switch on the clutch and it didn't appear to be bad.

There's also a light down where my left foot would rest. I was under the dash when my friend turned the key forward. The light blinked about 4 times then stayed on. I don't know what that was about. I tried to duplicate it but wasn't able to.

Someone mentioned an onboard security system. I looked around and saw where a relay would have been, but apparently there isn't a security system installed. We also made a reasonable attempt to check relays and fuses.

If anyone has seen this before or knows what the problem could be, please let me know. I'd like to drive it a few more times.

Oh, and I'm a n00b on this board. Glad to be here!

Well, I did read on several things where it looks like the ECU could be toast. I am wondering that if the lights on the dash aren't dimming when I turn it over, as the radio is, whether it's the ECU after all.

One person said the idle solenoid or switch could go bad and ruin the ECU. I know the guy who sold me the car just put one on there, and it's still idling just a little high.

Ideas are welcome.

Oookay since I got that much help I thought I'd offer the solution. ;)

I didn't have the time to do anything with my car so I took it to the guy who did my F22b1 swap. He said he found a plug that wasn't seated. It cost me a whole $31.

The symptoms were much like those in all the threads I looked through, however it just didn't agree with the solutions.

Great site by the way. :dsm:
