Help Diagnossis

Ok theres the problem, my car is burning oil, lots of it. I just put in a big28 turbo, becuse my old T-25 was blown, so I know the turbo is still good. There is oil on all four of my spark plugs. When I let the car sit at idle, it does not burn oil. When I put it into first rear or reverse it burns oil very badly, the other gears do to, but its most noticeble in first and reverese.

Im trying to narrow down the problems. How can I tell if its the headgasket or piston rings? Any help will be appreciated

Could be rings or valve seals. Do a compression test and see what the results are. Next, pour a couple of cap fulls of oil into each cylinder and recheck compression. If the readings go up, its the rings. If it stays the same, its probably valve seals. I would guess rings because valve seals will usually leak at idle but I would definately say I dought it is the hg.

Ok my next question is what should my compression numbers look like? Keep in mind I have a 6bolt from a 91.

Generally, Ive seen anything from 145-165psi, depending on milage, abuse, etc. All 4 cylinders should be within a few psi of each other. Just check it and let us know the outcome. Good luck with it.

Ok I havent been able to do the compression test yet but I notice that smoke does come off the einge when I rev it with the throttle cable
