2G Alternator Belt

I have a question. I recently broke my aternator belt, crank, etc. belt and replaced it. Well after not knowing really what the tension is, i took a quess. Well ever since then the belt keeps coming off by one thread. Is my tension to much, or to less? Or is there something else.... thanks for the help.

Anybody? Please! This is bothering me! i just got the car less then a day ago and now i cant get it running

check to make sure that the crank pulley is even with the alternator pulley with a straight egde. if not, you can shim the alternator pulley whichever way it is off. also get a good belt (gates work well) hope this helps.

That sounds interesting. How do i go about shimming the alternator over? Seem like that might be a good fix. thanks!!!

But it does puzzle me because my car only has 30k miles on it.

There is specs too on how much belt deflection there is ,

like on a 98 eclipse N/T the deflection is .39 to .45 inch deflection @ 22 lbs of pressure

to find deflection.. u simply find the midway point in between the two pulleys and apply about 22 lbs to it and get your desired deflection.

you will mess up pulley bearings.

Alright so if i overtighten it then i probably messed up my pulleys then??

or your harmonic balancer could be toast. Check that by grabbing the pulley that's on the ouside of the timing cover behind the splash gaurd on the driver's side wheel. see if you can wiggle the outside of the pulley around.

dont try to wiggle it to hard...then you will have a problem
