alternator belt problem

i drive a 91 eagle talon tsi awd
I belive its called my balance shaft belt? Anyway i was looking at it today and i noticed that it has a split down one side of it, should i be worried? and what can i look forward to if it snaps?



Also i just got my car back from the tranny shop on monday ( my tranny was cockeyed on my block so my flywheel was cutting into my transfercase, fun fun!!) and i installed a ralliart ground wire kit, it was running great until today(tuesday) my symptoms are as follows

1.every so often my idle will drop from 1500 - 500 and under
2. driving under 2000 rpm the car will do the old buck and bronco
3. and finally for ten minutes my check engine light came on (the one time i dont bring my pocket logger!!)

For the love of your car. PLEASE dont drive that car until you (A) Replace that belt or (B) Do an elimination of the balance shafts. Take it from me. If that belt snaps and gets caught in the timing belt its all over but the crying,and if that happens NO its not any easy fix.

The rubber in your harmonic balancer has died, and you need to replace it.

Still, just as with the balancer belt, do not drive the car that way.
