What else would trip a CEL light for 02 sensor?

Okay guys, this is getting really frustrating. I have a BRAND NEW 02 sensor put in less than 500 miles ago, and the damn think is still throwing a code. It comes and goes. You can hear the ecu trying to compensate. What else can cause a brand new 02 sensor to trip out like that again. I have a 4 wire bosch one. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Since you can figure out what code your getting, I'm assuming you have a logger of some sort. Try getting a few logs of the bank 1 o2 sensor and see what its doing. If its not getting any voltage at all, chances are one of the wire connections went out. It gets hot by those wires and sometimes wierd things happen.

Which sensor did you replace? There are two of them. Either one will trip a code.

What do you mean you can hear the ECU compensate? Do you mean you can hear/feel the engine gaining/losing power?

Please update you profile with your car type, it helps us diagnose problems.

Sorry guys, I have a 1990 GSX Eclipse. What I mean by compensating, is that the ECU is trying to reset it self. It clicks a multiple of times. Also, If the wire get hot and or loose connection, how do I fix this problem? Do I have to get another 02 SEnsor? Thanks for you input guys. Also, I dont have a logger. I just made a homemade LED light to check the codes. And it pulled up heated oxygen sensor. The car will have hard time starting up, and keeping idle. It'll want to stall out once I give it some gas and then let the idle drop down.

In my experience, clicking in the ECU is a bad thing (other than when you first start it up). Wires getting hot is another bad thing. I would suspect an electrical problem after hearing that. Might want to double check all of your wires and maybe even the ECU to make sure you didnt' blow a cap or anything.
