Strange turbo problem

Well I just took my car for its first test drive with the new engine and I went to an empty strip of road to seat the piston rings and I start accelerating, it starts to build boost and then POP off comes the lower IC pipe, Ok no big deal I must have forgotten to tighten the clamp, So I tighten it up and start accelerating and it makes a strange sound almost like a vacuum cleaner that dousn't want to go (best i can explain it) and it wont build boost. As Im typing this Im letting the car cool off so I can do a boost leak test but I have a feeling something might have happened to the turbo, any ideas?

Okay I checked it and there are no boost leaks, I also tried spinning the turbo with my hand and it spins freelly. I really dont know what else to check. It just wont build boost and I hear a strange whirring sound. Any ideas? Buy the way there are no exhaust leaks either and the engine pulls real nice until where it should start spooling up.

Well since nobody has thrown out any ideas I think Im going to go with my assumption that the turbo bearings are bad, although I dont understand why it would spin freely still, maybe it only comes into affect at higher RPM's. Today I think I am going to swap in my spare turbo.

i had one do that.

the metal ring that goes ontop the turbo and under the manifold had heated up and fell into the turine housing and was slowly grinding away at the exhaust wheel

That sucks man, Well I swapped in my other 14b and now everything is fine and dandy again so I guess the turbo was bad. At least now I know how much shaft play it takes to make a turbo no good. However now the turbo is spooling but the car is not pulling like it should still.
