Ok, Just had my 2g gs-t motor rebuilt and I have been having problems since with idle and missing and stuff like that. well last week my car wouldn't start, then it did, then it died in the road about 3 minutes later. It turns over fine, but I checked and i am not getting any spark trough any of my spark plug wires. So i had to tow it to the guy who did my motor. he checked it out and told me that the tensioner belt (i think) was all messed up. he said that all the teeth had been chewed off and it shreded. then it caused the Crank sensor to screw up. Now, I am not sure if that sounds logical or not. But i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with it getting no spark, and what it was for them. :dsm:

Sorry, it wasn't the Tensioner belt, it was the front balancer belt, it think that is what he called it. but he said that it was the crank sensor. I am just pissed because this guy is saying that this is on me, and the fact that he just rebuilt my motor about a month ago tells me that it is not my problem. what do you think could cause this stuff to happen. i.e. the belt shredding and the sensor going out. he said that the belt caused the sensor to go out. but i am not that dumb!!

On a 2g, when the front balancer shaft ("B") belt breaks it usually takes out the timing belt with it (and then bent valves happen, etc). The "B" belt is right next to the crankshaft position sensor (on crankshaft sprocket) and could easily take it out if it broke. If your very, very lucky, only the "B" belt broke and stayed put, and so it didn't take out anything else including the timing belt or crankshaft position sensor. Both the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor are needed by the ECU to produce proper spark and injector pulses. The camshaft position sensor is at the other end of the intake camshaft (so has nothing to do with the belts).

Sounds to me like the guy knows what he's talking about although any rebuild should ALWAYS include BOTH belts with PROPER tensioning (and water pump). Proper tensioning is always crucial and VERY often done incorrectly (see http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.html for technique). If only the "B" belt broke, the crankshaft position sensor might have been taken out also. Crankwalk can also take out the crankshaft position sensor and should also be checked. Rubbing on the sensor is a sign of "B" belt or crankwalk.

But I guess one of my biggest questions is, should I be responsible for paying for all of the new parts, plus paying him labor to fix. I just don't see how it can be something that i did when I only have about 1500 miles on my car, and I have been having problems with it since I got it back. He said that all of this had to do with my exhaust leak that I have. So, what do you think. Should he fix it, or should I pay for it to be fixed?

that depends...did he warranty his work...any shop I've ever dealt with stands behind their work. It also depends on which parts he replaced during the rebuild...or rather what constitutes a rebuild to him. as an example if you took your car to a shop to have the oil pump replaced and your water pump goes bad a week later...it's not the fault of the shop...it just happens. So it's important to know every piece he replaced and what the scope of work was.

ok i figured out what the hell happened. :thumb: i think. :thumbdown the "B" belt actually seperated. yes it turned into two seperate belts. one with the teeth and one without. it wasn't torn or ripped apart, just looked like it could have been pulled apart with two fingers. so pretty much it was a defective belt, which then caused my crank sensor to go. (the one part of the belt with the teeth got all tangled up in the pulley and messed the sensor all up) so ya, time to go to the dealership and see what the hell is going on with that. thanks for all the help from everyone. I will keep you all posted.
