Alrighty, looking for some help on a no-start 90 GSX. I bought the car last week put in a motor, tranny, brakes.....and a new ECU. We checked all the wiring and when we tried starting it, the ECU just clicks--no output to the starter whatsoever. Now I've read about ECU's clicking meaning the board is bad, but does the car have to be running to the the multiple clickings? The other question is, the ECU i have is out of a turbo FWD, number ends with 8625--1g tel turbo fwd. Not exactly sure what year. If it's not a 90 ECU, do I have to switch 6 and 14 around? Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree too, anything else that clicking could be caused by?

if its a 90, u need an ECU from a 90, otherwise u have to switch the wires around. your problem is probably the ecu capacitors went bad and leaked on the motherboard. pull the ecu and smell it, if the caps are bad, u will smell a fish like smell.

I'll see what year it is for sure and if so swap the wires. The thing is there is no smell to the ECU, at least I didn't smell anything unusual. I'll pull it out and see for sure. There's not something I omitted in install that could cause this clicking, is there?

Oh man, I didn't even realize there was one, my mistake. Thanks so much, I'm wondering if that is the case.....dang, I have to wait to get out of work to try it.

The metal? Is this like a ground strap like the ones in the engine compartment, or just a strap mounted to the ECU itself?

when i say metal, im referring to the metal that is on each side of the ecu, the metal that the ECU bolts too. if u look on the passenger side, at the bottom of the metal, you should see a ground strap that gets bolted to the metal on the bottom with one of those gold screws. if u can, when u get home, post a pic of that area if u cant find what im talking about.

The ground strap was in tact so I decided to pull the ECU and pop the cover to check the capacitors. To my dismay, two of them had leaked and burned the board. Interesting enough, no smell to it at all, but definite failure. So now to find a new computer and hopefully that'll fix the problem. Thanks for the help guys. I do have another question, there's a couple wires in the engine compartment I can't find homes for, is there somewhere I can find a wiring diagram for these cars?
