1G Extreme loss of power

Ok so here is my problem. My car will be fine, plenty of power, and everything seems ok. At random it will bog down, and lose all power. The engine screams like theres no tomorrow, but there is just nothing there. The stock boost gauge is all usually hovering around 10psi, but I know how inaccurate they are. The loss of power can last anywhere from 15-20 minutes to over an hour. If I stop driving for a while, it sometimes goes away ,and sometimes stays. I have replaced the fuel filter thinking that was the problem, since it seems to get worse when I am low on gas. That didn't help the problem. The car has an auto trans, and pretty much a stock motor, with the exception of a evo turbo and mani. I am thinking it may be the fuel pump. I have an appointment to have the car looked at, but if I could figure this out I would prefer to go that route.

When you say the engine screams, like you are putting your foot down on the gas, the rpm's go up, but you have no power? Be a little more specific on your explanation. Does it bog down, like its under load, like you are towing something?

If you have to stop the car and wait, it sounds like a computer isssue... Explain the problem a little more.
Just curious did you try blowing in your fuel filter backwards to see what came out when you pulled it out?

does it make any unsual noise ? ( like ticking or cracklin) Does it do it all the time or just in bad weather,when the engine's cold , when you accelerate.....????

you didn't provide a great description but here's what I would check
1-Plug wires for any cracks
2- Spark plugs : gap , and if they're dirty
3- distributor cap , see if cracked or dammaged

if still no help ,

fuel pump, get it checked and rewired if necessary

Please describe your problem more and you'll get more answers , i suggest getting a full tune up.

thanks for the reply guys. The car doesnt do it during any specific time, its just random. The car revs, but there is no power. It doesnt act as though it is towing something. I didnt think to run fuel throught the old filter , but the fuel that did come out wasnt the best looking. There are not funny noises from the car, and it has new plugs, wires, and has been recently tuned up. The car has done this since I bought it but since I replaced the turbo it has gotten much better. I do notice that when the car is running fine, the stock boost gauge reads much higher approx. 14psi, where as when the car is running like crap it will go to 8 then to 14 then to 10 but it all feels like there is no boost at all just alot of revving to nowhere. I am sorry for the vague description, this one is hard to describe. Is there anyway to check the fuel pump with a multi?

Maybe timing is being pulled? Can you get access to a datalogger to see what your timing is when you have the power loss? You need to get a aftermarket boost gauge to see what boost you are running, ESPECIALLY with a new turbo. Even if your first mod is something simple like a CAI you need a boost gauge! You could be running 15-16 PSi and knocking like crazy and getting timing pulled! I think you should invest in a boost gauge and a pocketlogger, they will most likely help to solve your problem and they are a neccessity for a modded car.

Yeah I was wondering if a pocketlogger would tell me whats going on when this happens. I was going to buy both items, the pocketlogger and a boost gauge this week. Hopefully it will tell me more. Until I am able to check with these items, are there any other possiblilties?
