The car has been driving fine for the a while now with no problems it seems. I turned the car off yesterday and the turbo timer worked as it usually does. I went back out last night to turn the car on and went I put the key in everything was fine, turned to to the acc position, fine, but when I turned it to the on position all the lights on my dash just went out as well as all of my gauges. No starter solenoid click, no start. When I took the key out and tried it again the lights never came back on. Went out today to try again, same thing. Lights were on when I got there and once I got it into the on position everything turned off.

I check the battery voltage and that is fine, and the car has been running with normal voltage on the voltmeter. I am not a guru on electronics systems. Any ideas of what it could be or were to start checking with the multimeter?

I also had this prob. I would make sure a hot wire is not touching anything. The hot wire on my alternator was touching the casing causing it to short, blowing the fuse.

Yeah you guys are 1g. I don't think I have the same battery fuse. I did check all the fuses in the box in the engine bay and they were all fine. I have yet to check the box on the drivers side inside the car. So it seems like it is shorting when the car in in the on position. And the only extra things that would be on going from the acc position to the on position is the ignition and fuel system correct? So wouldn't the problem be with that system? This seems hard to diagnose because all of the fuses so far have been fine.

Anymore insight would be appreciated.

yeah we are 1g :) it could be your ignition switch!

Alright, I did some more testing. The headlights do not work in any position. The headlight and taillight relays are both working. Here is something wierd. The battery has around 12.5 v, which I know is a bit low. The open door light glows dimmly when the key is not in, and when it is turned to the acc position. I have a windshield fluid trouble light on in the dash because the reservoir is empty. That light is not on in the acc position. When I turn the key to on, the open door light turns off and the windshield fluid light turns on.

I have been looking at the wiring diagram and it seems like the gauges run through the headlight relay. And since the headlights aren't working I assume the problem is further up from the relay towards the battery. So I am going to just check all the wires running from the battery to the fuse box to see if there are any obvious shorts and that there is continuity in the wire.

I've been having this problem too, try charging your battery. After I installed my fuel pump, it caused the car not to start because I guess it take more voltage for it to function. The car wouldn't start on it's own but when I jumped it with another battery it would work the first time. I got the battery charged after getting it tested and finding that it passed the test. I put the battery in and it started right away.

It's been happening to me for a while, sometimes it would come out of nowhere but I noticed that I've dealt with other cars that had similar problems that were solved with just changing the battery. My friends 1G wouldn't start after we put a new fuel filter in, it would only start by push starting it. My bros 3S, would have problems cranking, thought it was the battery but it was READING fine just like mine was reading fine. It was charging like normal during idle but if we hooked up another battery to jump it, it would start smoothly.

P.S. Oh yeah if the lights aren't showing up on the dash on the ON position still, reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal. Then it should work. All in all I say try reseting the ECU first, if that doesn't work try getting your battery charged at Pepboys or Autozone for free (takes about 20min). I might replace my battery soon as well to an Optima Redtop, the battery might be also causing my turbo timer not to engage when I remove my key sometimes.

BATTERY!!!!!!!!!!!!! If thiers not enough juice the selenoid will not even click in some cases. I work at a parts store and this is what i see a lot. :thumb:
