AC Problem; Block Knock

OK, got a 90 GSX, runs descent right now, aside from my differential problems, but everytime my AC is on, when i come to a stop, the car idles 400-1000, for like 5 seconds, then stalls. anyone know what the problem is?

I also hear a sound coming from the block, not really a knock, its more towards a click, but i guess it could be considered a knock. i know i should get it checked out before i do anything rash, but can anyone give me a heads up?
