Okay, i tried everything. my 92tsi is knocking or it maybe a tick. I cleaned the lifters and still the same result, nothing changed. Checked the oil and filter for metal shaveings and nothing. I used a STETHOSCOPE to listen and it sounds loudest at the intake manifold where it connects to the head. My friend told me a intake gasket can make a loud knock i told him he was crazy. THIS NOISE SOUNDS LIKE ROD KNOCK AND CAN BE HEARD OVER MY EXHAUST. If i pull the wires out when it is idleing the knocking goes away then comes back. It almost sounds loudest where the head connects to the block. I listened on the bottem end and put the stethoscope at the balance shafts and nothing. I want to believe its a wrist pin knock but its there at ACCELERATION AND DEACCELERATION. ITS REALLY LOUD AND IS VERY SLOW, LIKE HALF THE SPEED OF THE CRANK, SO ITS NOT THE CRANK. I wish it was a lifter or something cause its so loud under the hood with the knock i cant pinpoint it. My car feels so slow but it still boosts 15psi but drops back to 13 And i do not have a boost leak. Could the intake really make a knocking sound, i swapped injectors and thats not it. DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO, I NEED HELP CAUSE I DONT WANT IT TO BE A WRIST PIN OR ROD CAUSE OF MY MISS DIAGNOSIS. I WISH THERE WAS A WAY TO CHECK LIFTERS. PLEASE HELP
Thanks alot
Tom

Plus it does not like to start right away anymore, compression is 150 across the board..I have a walboro 255pump and thats all for fuel.. LET ME HEAR IT GUYS, WHAT CAN IT BE!!! I asked before last week but noone responded

I don't know what to tell you about the noise it's hard to say without hearing it. But I bet your car feels really slow because the knock sensor is picking it up as knock and so the ecu is retartding the timing. I would try not to drive it too much or atleast don't boost it untill you get it fixed.

i am working on fixing it. If i dont figure this thing out soon then i am just gonna tear the whole dame thing apart and rebuild it again. Its only been 5k since the last rebuild and it ran great. Just started this knocking crap, I am about to run it without the valve cover on so that i can listen better. I checked it on the logger and the timing is at 8 degrees at idle, but have not checked it while boosting it.

i would love to figure out what it was. I want to think its a bearing but its to loud at the intake over everything else. I want to say wrist pin but it does not do it right at startup and does not ever go away once the car is warmed up, plus if i pull the wires off it goes away then comes back a few seconds later or if i rev it a little, i thought it was gone cause it never came back when i pulled the plug on #2 but then i reved it to about 2500 and it was knockin really bad again. I thought it was lifters but who the hell knows, listening with the oil cap off is not good enough i need to take the valve cover off.

Can i replace the bearings in the shaft without taking the shaft out, i dont want to have to pull the front cover off and i do not really want to eliminate them.

1) NO.
2) The guy who designed the Motor doesn't really care what you want.
3) & would you rather eliminate your Motor - OR - eliminate your Balance Shafts? :dsm:
