Just finally got everything ready to go for the car, after being worked on for 8+months. This car has been under extensive modifing. Well we finally get coolant in the rad, gear lube in the tranny, oil in the motor...ect...got all the connections connect (i hope). Finally the big moment comes to turn the key and fire her up, um... denied....
The starter just makes a click, and thats it, and at the same time there is a sound like a relay clicking like nuts, I pin pointed the sound to the center on the passanger side right beside where the passangers feet would be, there is this little module or w/e that makes the clicking sound. Any clue why the car wont start.
BTW... this is on a 95 tsi awd, 5 speed.

Also, got a brand new battery i got today, so it cant be that. its not the ecu because that is just laying on the ground (not bolted in) on the driver side cuz i had the ecu socketed/tmo Stage III...
and the little module or w/e is on the right side, Its about 2"x1", and i know its that because if i hold my hand on it while my friend turns the ignition i could feel it click

It sounds like your ECU or power relay is bad. Pull off the side covers on the console & listen. 2 silver metal boxes are below your stereo, the cuboidal 1 in front is the relay, you can actually take it apart & see if it works. The flat silver box is behind the relay box is the ECU, 98% chance this is what's chattering. You can take it apart & look for leaking capacitors & signs of overheating on the board, think toast. If still no clues, check for error codes at your diagnostic port.

well quite a few years later, but to others out there who may have this problem, it ended up being my crank sensor. I ended up finding that when the belt went, it tweaked the metal that passes through the sensor and tore the magnet on the sensor apart. New sensor and prob fixed, after i straightened out the metal for the (hall effect?)
