starter problems and couple random ?'s

hello all
i have a '96 TSI FWD, and every time i start the car there's a few weird ticks.. every once in a while if i let the key go a little early so that the engine sort of "stumbles" to a start, it won't make this noise.. i've been told that it's the belix in the starter not releasing and that it will eventually kill the starter..
every once in a while, i can't start my car.. i just hear sort of a "whiiirr", and i've been told that that's the starter going bad.. it took me 5-10 mins to get my car started last night.. so i'm looking into replacing the starter. here's what i want to know:
-will someone "point" to the starter on my 96 turbo fwd? my chilton shows it on a 420A, but i can't seem to find it on my car.. heh heh..
-is this a pretty easy install? i'm quite mechanically inclined, and this won't be my first time working on my car by any means.. but i'm hardly a guru.. haha
-any recommendations on where to buy which starter? i found one for $133 at partznet.com

also, on a completely un-related couple of notes...
anyone have any recomendations for fixing various paint chips/scratches? i went to NAPA today, but they couldn't really help me.. because the color code on the tag under the hood is unreadable. my car is very pure white (..with a black top, of course). i was just going to get one of those little paint kits with a brush... then use my dremal to remove any rust.. then use the paint to .. cover the metal back up to prevent rust (...not to mentino it should look better)

and does anyone know what exhaust this is?

i saw that on e-bay and like the looks of the exhaust a lot.. but i don't know a lot about it.. the description of the car said that it has R-1 racing sports exhaust.. but i can't seem to find that anywhere.. did someone rig up two mufflers? or is it normally like that? would it sound real ricy? (... i'm not looking to be ricy.. and i hate that stupid wing on that car, if anyone was wondering about that)
and why is his rear windshield wiper down? ...odd

Follow the big wire going from the + battery terminal. It's behind the engine and down low. And it's not easy to remove (lots of stuff in the way to remove first). Of course, as usual, everyone will give a different opinion on the difficulty as soon as I post this.

yeah, i tried following power wires.. i found one that went down and behind, and hoped that wasn't it
