fuel pump?

aight fellas kinda long but stay with me. Here we go, i picked up a 92 gsx thats really clean an ran strong for 300 miles (trip back home). Only mods are a starion fmic(it sucks i know) and a greddy type s that is vented. so heres the problem. it has a problem starting when its COLD has to turn over a few times an then just a immense smell of gas but no smoke.2nd SOMETIMES when i go thru the gears and i hit bout 5grand i getta big backfire. Not in any specific gear, so i think its overloading and i call the guy i got it from and he says he thinks it has a aftermarket fuel pump but he's not sure cause he only had the car 2 months and never really drove it cause it wasa project. so in my opinion the car seems to be getting to much gas and is overloading what do you guys think?. whats the quickest,cheapest way to see if it does indeed have a big pump in it. gauge,have somebody test it? if i take the pump out myself would i be able to tell 100% if its not stock

you are running rich as hell.

do u know what kind of fuel pump u are running.

my car did the backfire thing when i was running the 255 with stock regulator.

let us know what kind of fuel pump you are running and what your future goals are for injectors, etc.

if you are gonna get 550's or stay w/ stock 450's you should just have the 190 pump for fuel delivery.

with a 255 and bigger injectors, it is recommended to get a AFPR. if not the 255 will overrun the stock regulator and you will run pig rich.
