well let me just say i only had the car for a month! its a 95 tsi awd, only mods r 14b turbo, and intake, almost 120k miles on it, and its auto so i dont launch it. I dont run the car hard, maybe here and there i will boost a little but thats all. I was driving and there was a little bump, and all of a sudden the car starts shaking violently!!! It was just jumping up and down!! good thing i was only going 30mph who knows what coulda happen if i was on the highway! Anyways its at the shop, but they wont touch it till monday, How much am i looking to spend here? is it possoble for it to go over 2g's? I just had my mr2 turbo come out of the shop, now this car goes in makes me mad!!

the front LEFT driver side looks real bad, the body is touching the tire, Also when i open the driver side door, i hear a clunk its pretty loud. I hope only the driver side axle is messed up.

Sounds more like you lost a ball joint. Losing an axle shouldn't drop the car.

exactly what i was thinking defiant, if it turns out to be a ball joint, there is a recall on the 2g ball joints for failure, so you might get lucky and not have to pay for anything....make sure you mention it to the dealer, just got my recall notice for one of my car's the other day, the number for it is: SR-04-001.....you can also call mitsu customer relations dept at: 888-mitsu-2004..... :dsm:

i hope it is just a ball joint, the front left driver side tire is pointing to the left while the pasenger side is straight. Oh and i didnt give the dealer the car, i gave it to a shop. Maybe i might be able to get for free.

possibly a tie rod end then...but if it turns out to be a ball joint i'd take it to a dealer an insist on a new one for free....:dsm:

had the same thing happen in my buddys 96 fwd, but we were going up a pretty steep uprise/hill going into the liquor store parking lot, and the drivers side wheel nearly fell off. inner fender was sitting on top the tire, and with the wheel turned all the way right, the drivers side wheel didnt move an inch and stayed stright.

a whole control arm and ball joint from mitsu is only about 350, brand new axels from mtsu are extremely overpriced, remanufactured ones are usually less then 100 bucks, outter tie rod is like 30 if its broken, inner is about 130(its prob fine, he didnt damage his inner)
none of this is hard to put in if you have a little bit of mechanical knowledge, it can all easily be done in a day, in your driveway. but labor could run up to 5 or 6 hours if everything that was broken on my buddys is broken on yours(our mechanc doesnt charge by the hour:D , so im not really sure how many hours)

Thats what I was thinking. If the balljoint or the tie-rod end broke it may have pulled the half shaft out of the transmission though which could have possibly damaged it as well.

from personal experience when my axle broke my car went to the right all of a sudden doing about 50 i quicky countered pulled over and looked, the tire wasnt mashed up into the frame, but when my ball joint went the exact same thig you said happened, so im guessing its that it should only cost you like 45 bux for the part and around 50 for labor.

If the balljoint broke and it hasnt been repaired under the recall yet, then the dealership has to pay not only for the parts and labor to fix the balljoint and any damage that its failing caused to other parts of the car, but they also have to pay for all towing that you need to have done to the car if it broke. If you payed to have the car towed to the shop its at now then keep the reciept and show it to them. Also have them pay to have it towed to the dealership. However, the towing is not covered if the balljoint is not bloken. they will actually replace the entire lower control arm and the bolts holing it in. Good luck!

^^ what?@!!!!! you serious about that for a 1g car cause if so im pissed i payd like 600 dollars total for tow and shop to fix it. im pissed if i could have gotten it done for free.
