I have a problem... my odometer and tripometer quit working on me. THey wont turn whats so ever. I was wondering what do I check to get them back to work. where do I go. SOme help in this matter would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I just took my gauge cluster out when mine locked. I toyed around and moved some gears. Something got locked up, and I must have freed it.....damn it would be so easy to turn back a DSM odometer!

Is there any other way of going about it? My speeometer and Tachometer both work fine, its just my odometer and tripometer not turning... someone told me there is a cable thats connected to the tranny that sends the signal back is this true?

Waitaminute- the drive is electric, but aren't the 2Gs still driving a mechanical counter drum at the head?

It's very easy to pull the 2G cluster: lower the steering wheel, pull the two screws in the top of the trim bezel, pop out the two spring connectors at the bottom edge, and wrestle it out past the wheel shroud. Then there are 4 screws holding in the cluster, the ones going through the white plastic.
To open up the cluster, carefully pry apart the black from the white by unhooking all the clips around the edge (you'll get it when you see it) and you're in. Use some dental picks or the like to fiddle with the counter drums, you may get it to pop back into place or whatever it needs. If you don't have any luck, used gauge pods go for less than $50 on eBay. As an N/T, I believe you can get away with an Avenger cluster, and they go for almost nothing (check around to make sure).

so your saying its as easy as just opoing it open and useing pick tools to turn it back ?

well ill give taking the unit out a try and see if I can loosen the drums, if not I guess its on to looking for a new unit, thanks for all the imput so far Ill let you know how it turns out. and your right its still a mechanical odometer and tripometer just electric connections

Sorry this thread turned out like this wish we could just help each other out w/o any BS.... anyways I got my odometer working again just popped the cluster out rolled the unit forward and all is good...THANXS FOR INFO.

Gosh, I don't see any BS.

AND WE WON'T BE SEEING ANY BS IN HERE.

Because we're all nice people who enjoy getting along.

Glad you got it fixed. As you see, there is rather more to odometer rollback than just poking at it. However, freeing up a stuck drum can be simple.

Now, back to our niceness.

OR ELSE.

I just wanted to let you know that of course I know the '99 odo has mechanical counter drums, since I own one! I mistakenly thought he meant he was trying to fix it via the tranny cable. I didn't know he was willing to remove the gauge cluster. My mistake.
