I recently brought my car to a shop for some fixes.....It got a new rack ad pinion, head gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, timing belt, alternator, control arms. Befire it went into the shop my car had oil leaks and such but its power was great. After the car came out of the shop it feels as if it has no power. Turbo is still spooling and making boost but its not pulling like it used to. It also takes a little longer to rev up and seems too slow for how loud the engine sounds. My thoughs were it was a timing issue and they didn't set the timing right. I need help..Any thoughts?????????? Could anything bad happen as a result. I do not hear any knocking either.

could be timing, cam timing, they stole your pistons, replaced it with a 600cc crank, robbed you of your car and gave you a different one, etc.

You have to give us some more info. Try checking the compression, timing, fluids, etc first. Give them a call :D.

I have looked under the hood and listened for any ecaping air. I havn't heard anything out of the ordinary. The feeling the engine give when driving does not resemble that of a boost leak. However, I have never experienced a slipped timing before either so I dont know if it that. I looked at the cam gears and the timing marks from what I could tell, do not line up. I can only see one of the marks at a time. So I am going to take it to the shop that worked on it last weekend to take a look at the timing. I have to drive 210 miles from school to get home though. Will it be safe..the car made it down here ok!

I think the timing might be the culprit behind my car being slow, just checked compression same results with each cylinder. 165, without having the car driven beforehand, I just let it idle and moved it to my driveway and did the test.

put a straight edge across those marks and see if just the 2 cam gears line up first...if one of them is off and you still have 165 your valves should be good :D.

they probably rolled it counter clockwise and skipped a tooth on the intake cam.

I never thought it was my timing because when I had my car smogged a while back, it said timing was fine. I remember we had my bros 240sx smogged before we sold it and it failed because the timing was off, they adjusted it and it passed.

I didn't try what you said yet, I'll prob do it on Sun or Mon when I have free time. We'll see though I'm procrastinating with all my hw due on Tues. I just wanted to relax for Spring Break, but I have midterms I haven't studied for, three papers I have to write after the required readings, some excercises for English, and some crap for my art class. Bah all due on Tues, I have work today 5pm-1am so it's all going to be left for tomorrow and Mon.

I ended up taking it to the shop that did the work and they told me the timing was off by one tooth. So I got the car back now after they reset the timing and its got the power back for the most part, but its loud as hell and the engine vibrates like a MotherF&$#$. I think they ####ed up the balance shaft...Can any harm be done driving it with the balance shaft the way it is....i want to try to get it back into the shop for them to fix but i gotta drive the car back to school. so it will be a week till i can come back.

It is difficult to damage the balance shaft, however if not properly set your vehicle will vibrate. Please ask your mechanic to perform the following test to evaluate the position of the balance shaft:

1. Remove the 14MM plug located on the back of the Engine block. The 14 MM bolt does not hold any part of the engine, is sitting by itself.

2. Try to insert a Phillip screwdriver. If it only goes in 1/4 of an inch, the balance shaft is improperly set. If the screwdriver goes in completely, the balance shaft is correctly set.

To reset the balance shaft to the correct position do as follows:

1. Once he removes the timing belt,

2. Turn the balance shaft clockwise until the balance shaft turns counter clockwise by itself.

3. Try to insert the Phillip screwdriver again, it should go in completely, if not perform step 2 again. Once you position the screwdriver.

4. Set all the timing marks and re-install the timing belt.

5. MAKE SURE THAT THE SCREWDRIVER IS REMOVED AND THE 14MM BOLT IS RE-INSTALLED ON THE BLOCK BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE.
