Got the shakes...sometimes.

On my way to and from work, I spend at least 5 or so minutes on a two lane expressway. Every night on the way home, I've noticed that, especially under gentle acceleration, my car seems to have a bit of a shake in the front end. I can feel it through the gas pedal, steering wheel, and through my left knee, which is usually resting against the door panel. I started thinking the other day that maybe there was a problem in my front end, or my transmission (which is automatic). BUT...it ONLY does it on that stretch of road on the way home. Going the other way down that same expressway at 65 miles an hour, and all the rest of the way home, which is spent at 50, it's smooth as butter.

They recently repaved that whole expressway, so is it possible that there's some kind of problem with the pavement that's causing the vibration/shake/shudder...whatever? Or are there any parts of the car that I should have checked out? Ease my mind here...

If the vibrations are throughout the whole car like yours are then it is most likely bad ball joints. If it is in the steering wheel it is your tie rod ends, and if your steering wheel shakes when you brake you have a warped rotor. I have had all three of these shimmies and shakes and have fixed them all.

I guess they did something wrong when they paved it - just because it's fine on the other side of the road. Do you know anybody else that travels on that road, or do you have a different car to try?
