i just pulled my head today:) and found that i had 8 bent intake valves. i bought it that way. instead of pulling the cam gears off, lack of air tools, we pulled the cams with the cam gears still attached. i need to know how to put the cams back on. can i just put them on where they were or do i need to put the cams at top dead center position and then put them on. i didnt put the motor at tdc before i took them off cause of the bent valves. my question is do i put the cams back on the same position i took them off or do i need to put them in the tdc position. by the way i went ahead and put the motor at tdc with the head off.
 
you messed up i did the same thing the lifters and all those little parts are supposed to go back in the exact same spot that they were in before or else it wont run as good as it did before. i hope to god you marked the intake and exahst cam other than that your good get a valve job $150
 
i took them off one at a time that way i know what lifters and cam go together. i did mark them so that should be good there. if i would have thought about it the head should be put at tdc since i put the motor tdc. common sense really. im a dumbass. thanx for the help guys. one more question, how do i check the water pump with the head off? i had to take the thermostat housing off the head to get it off. do i just add water to see if it will leak or what.
 
It's not always that the water pump will leak, it's usually the impeller blades wear out and it cannot push as much water as it needs to. I would replace it since you have it all apart anyways, no sense having to go back in there 6 months from now when you can just get it over with.
 
true. how much do you think a water pump would cost? and where? what else should i get. i already have the tensioner. i plan on getting
a head gasket set (do you know if it is a multi- layer)?
