Manual transmission question! Please Help!

I have a 92 laser. It had a 5-speed in it that the bell housing cracked on. So I had to get another one. The car that i took the replacement tranny out of was a 91 talon. Both cars are 2.0's. Mine's non-turbo. I cant say about the Talon. Mine had 80 w 90 grease in it. The replacement tranny had what appeared to be automatic tranny fluid. It also had a clutch that was just a little bigger, maybe a quarter of an inch. The flywheel also was a little different in design than the one in my car. My flywheel is flat acrossed it. The replacement one has places that stick out aboutthree quarters of an inch that the pressure plate bolts to. I got the flywheel clutch and pressure plate with the replacement tranny. they are all brand new. My question is "Will it work on mine? And why did it have a different type of fluid? I could really use the help tonight as I'm going to try and put it back together tomorrow. I have yahoo messenger (scorpion45601) if you could help, I sure would appreciate it! Thanks
 
sounds like a turbo tranny, flywheel and presure plate. it will work in your car but ull need a fwd turbo flywheel, clutch kit, starter and axles.
far as auto tranny fluid in it, maby the previus owner didnt know its supose to take gear oil.
the gearing will be higher so ur n/t may seem more sluggish.

if your old tranny still shifts good why not get the crack welded
 
I agree with fasteclipse1992. The flywheel has a "step" that sets the coverplate on the flywheel off the surface of the flywheel. Given that, it would appear you picked up a complete tranny, flywheel , disk and pressure plate from a turbo car.

I'd suggest just sticking with the NT flwheel, disk and pressure plate. Reason: Apparently the NT flywheel and T flywheel starter teeth are distanced differently from the rear of block surface. (ie if you use a turbo flywheel you'll need the turbo starter because it has a longer nose on it) I personally haven't looked at this, but it's been mentioned by numerous others on the board. I do have a 6 and 7 bolt turbo flywheel and a N/T flywheel in my storage unit. I'll look tommarrow to confirm this.

The gearing won't really be noticable for normal driving.

Fluid? Sounds like the previous owner had used the wrong fluid. Unless it was Redline fluid. I think it has a redish tint to it, like ATF. And if it was fresh and clean, it would look very similar to ATF although the viscosity should be different. Does it smell like ATF? ATF has a very distinctive smell. Gear lube does to.

Taking the old tranny to a welding shop would also work. Any good shop with a TIG setup should be able to take care of it.
