Ok I have this very bad oil leak... the thing is that I can't find it! It seems to come from the front engine cover area. The leak seems to happen only when the engine has a load. There's oil everywhere on the left side of my engine compartment, even my left side wheels get covered with oil, seems like oil SPRAYS all over the place. I changed the front cover gasket resently and the front main seal, also i have eliminated balance shafts.

This is what i did in hopes to find the leak: I removed all the accesories and lower timing belt cover. Cleaned the area, fired up the engine and had a friend to free-rev it to 5 grand with a cold engine in hopes to bring the oil pressure high enough. As he was revving I had my flashlight looking at everywhere but I just couldn't see any signs of BAD leak! A small drip by the oil pan was all i saw. I stopped the engine when it reached normal temperature (no waterpump) and I just scrathed my head. I re-torqued the cover bolts and put everything back together, after a 20 mile trip or so, there was oil all over the place again.

What you guys think it would be coming from? I wish I had free access to a dyno so i could check my car with a load. Oh well, I guess I'm gonna replace the front cover gasket again. :thumbdown

hmmmm gonna bypass that crap tomorrow... but when the pvc gets plugged, it usually leaks from the valve cover right?

Hey, you might want to check to see if your dip-stick is blowing out. It happens quite regularly. If it is, just take a pair of pliers and crimp the tube so the dip-stick fits tight.

And that's one of the oldest DSM quickie-fix things hehehe

YOu might have the same problem i have, I am losing oil out of the timing belt tensioner bolts

Now this is interesting... I don't remember if those bolts go through oil passages. Maybe some teflon tape would do the trick?

I have a very similar if not the same exact leak. I have yet to find where exactly it is leaking from. Replaces all the gaskets/seals in/around the front cover. I can acutally see tiny drops coming from behind the fron cover and dripping on the driver's side axle, that is why MY oil goes everywhere. I also have no balance shafts, but it only started leaking recently. I guess I am going to put teflon tape on every damn bolt in the area and see if it works.

Did you do a balance shaft removal? Because the front balance belt tensioner bolt will leak if its not there.

No harm intended! I was just giving some advice from experience, But then again I have had a lot of oil leaks that generalize from the same area, I was just trying to point out the most odvious but usually over-looked. I have also had the filter housings crack and the oil pump's crack, and the pressure sending units develop a leak around thier bells . But those are less of an occurance. Just trying to help.
