this only happens sometimes but its starting to happen a little more often.

when you try to start the car, you can hear the starter spin but its not catching then when you let off the key the starter slows down, and it makes a bang noise, like its catching gears. the car almost started one time after i let off the key and the starter went bang and sounded like it hit the flywheel. it only does it sometimes. usually it will do it once then turn the key again and it starts right up.

what do you guys think, its a new motor. When i put it together 2000 miles ago the flywheel was fine no missing teeth or anything. think the starter might be bad???

I put this motor in myself but don't remember if you can pull the starter out from the bottomm It should come right out right. i didn't have the transfer case in when i was doing the motor work so i was pretty easy that way.

always something on this piece. LOL.

Thanks

in my 90 laser turbo you take the battery and tray out then you can get to the starter bolts.. not sure if its the same on your car.

yep sounds like a bad starter solenoid. Don't waste your time rebuilding it. It will take less time and the same amount of money just to get a new one.

I am having sort of the same problem...

When I try to start it it just makes a LOUD banging noise likes its jumping off the flywheel.. I have replaced the starter to try and fix the problem but it is still there. I have felt the edge of he flywheel it is not damaged or missing any teeth.. I cannot figure out whats going on

thats definitly not what i wanted to hear. LOL. But did you get a new starter or rebuild yours. Its been a couple days now and seems mine is getting worse. It takes maybe 2 or 3 trys for it to catch sometimes now. But other times it catches right away. Think it could be possible you have another bad starter.
