I was looking at my CV boots and 2 of them are torn/cracked. Is this a big deal? How much do they cost to replace? How easy are they to replace? Where can I get them? Is this something I need to fix right away?

when backing up or turning i hear a clanking type noise. is the cv boot causing that?

-You should fix the boots asap, they hold the grease in there to lube the CV joints, if that clicking noise you describe have been there for a while, chances are the joints are worn and the entire axel should be replace with a rebuilded one, if both boots are torn on the same axel, then it's cheaper to replace the axel since you will have to remove the axel to replace the boots anyway, boot set(inner & outer) can be found at most part stores or Road///Race, for info on how to remove the axels, check out the clutch replacement section of the vfaq.com. good luck.

i would change both of them out if i were you. If one went out, the other is soon to follow. Yes, get it done asap, u can get them at auto zone or any local parts store, they may not have them in stock, but they can order them for you. They are not too expensive either and not too difficult to change.
