Ok i pulled out my ecu today to change the caps but to my surprise one of the caps has already started leaking. now the damage does not look bad, and the last time i used the car it ran fine except for the occasional misfire. heres my dilemma: should i try and clean the circuit board up and just change the caps, or should i look into a new board?

Thanks
Josh

P.S.: Ill have pictures a little later, i still need to get them developed

if the circuit board doesn't look damaged at all, then just clean it real good and install new caps... this should work, unless you were already experiencing more than just some misfire...

although some pictures will help...

Yea if the board isn't damaged or "leaked on" then you should be fine. If your not sure take some pics and we can judge it for ya ;)! Good luck getting it running again!

heres those pics

another one...

last one, you cant really see the damage but i cant find a camera that will actually focus when it gets that close.. sorry!

It's definitley an eprom. If it wasn't, it wouldn't have capacitors. I would try an just replacing them and cleaning it up and see if works. If not, then look into getting a new ecu.

What? No, that's incorrect. _All_ ECUs (turbo or not, EPROM or not) have the capacitors. I just replaced the capacitors in my non-EPROM ECU this last week.

Sorry about that, I must of been a little mistaken. I do know that computers built after 95 don't have capacitors. I was under the assumption that all 2g's (except early production 95's) were non-EPROM and all 1g's were due to the capacitors.

Maybe there is something I don't know. Do you guys have 1g or 2g computers that yall are talking about not being EPROM?

Here is the page that indicates that all models after 95 do not have EPROMs. But apparantly you can have a non-EPROM ECU in a 1st. I do know that I had to replace the capacitors in my 95 and it's an EPROM and I do know that every ECU in this webpage is an EPROM and they have capacitors.

I guess 1g's can have capacitors and not be EPROM. I don't know. But I do know that the non-EPROM ECU's later than 95 don't have capacitors that have to be worried about replacing. There is another web page somewhere showing where the capacitors can be replaced. Check this site out and I'll get back with the other site

Yep here it is showing a 1g non-EPROM ECU with capacitors. I stand corrected. If you dig around this site it will tell you about the ECU's and their year models though.

Later

Man I'm gonna get yall headed to the right place soon.
